Breakthrough bleeding at 8 weeks or is it something worse...(sorry TMI in my post)

Hi everyone, I'm 8 weeks + 3 days pregnant. 2 days ago, I had some fresh blood mixed with a bit of mucous (sorry TMI) when I wiped. I've had nothing since and have gone back to the discharge I have had previously (the milky white stuff). Of course I am panicking and fearing the worse and wish I could go for a viability scan asap. But, I'm actually on holiday and not back in the UK until next weekend so have another week until I can find out if all is ok.

The bleeding happened on the day my period would have been due again had I not been 8 weeks pregnant. And, I've read that it is not unusual to bleed around this time when pregnant. But, this is my 2nd pregnancy and I didn't have any bleeding with that pregnancy.

I watched this NHS video which says that some bleeding in early pregnancy is very common and normally doesn't indicate anything is wrong www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/vaginal-bleeding-pregnant.aspx#close This seems so optimistic and contrary to a lot of other things I have read - in particular that miscarriage is most likely to happen when your period would have been due.

I still feel pregnant and have breast tenderness so I guess that's positive.

I know it's only the scan that can show if everything is ok but just wondering what other women's experience of breakthrough bleeding is - the good and the bad?

And of course it's freezing and pouring with rain where we are. We'd be better off at home!!

I had exactly this - even more blood if anything. cue panicking and weeping and a trip for an early scan where they listen for a heartbeat...and
...........
yesterday was her 4th birthday! a very healthy Pirate Captain running around and whacking people with a plastic sword. Try not to worry - 'tis v common.

I've had light bleeding off and on since about 6 weeks, have now had 3 (!) early scans and all is fine. You should definitely get a scan to check, but just wanted to let you know it's not always bad news. The sonographer told me it's very common as toni says.

Thank u. Fingers crossed it's good news for me too! The first 12 weeks of pregnancy are so hard. Every time I go to the loo, I am scared. When I saw the blood, my heart just sank. Of course it would have to coincide with being on holiday!! For once, I'd rather be in London than on holiday.

Such a tiny amount of bleeding is completely normal. You only need to worry if the bleeding is heavy or prolonged or if you have pain.

I have a lot of bleeding in pregnancy. This time I've only had a few weeks but last time it lasted till 14 weeks and was very very heavy for the first 7 weeks and DD is absolutely fine.

Try not to worry (although I know it's easier said than done) and I'm sure you'll be fine. Smile

I had no bleeding during my first pregnancy but had some bleeding at 12 weeks this time (bright red heavy spotting for a few hours). EPU were able to scan and see it was a small placental bleed, but not a problem, and I'm now at 21 weeks without any further bleeding. And it's still grey in London, the promised sun has not yet turned up so you're not missing much weather-wise... I hope you can try and enjoy the rest of your holiday, and are able to get some reassurance once you're back home.

Thank u ItsMyLastOne and RedKites. It's very reassuring to hear your positive stories - although being a pessimist, I am still fearing the worst!! Think I might have to go stuff my face have a crepe as a treat.

Thanks DarcyRhone. It's very reassuring to hear everyone's stories. I only have my first pregnancy to go by and I had no scares that time around. I'm wondering whether my body is ready for another pregnancy. My DD will be 1 next Monday so it hasn't been that long in between pregnancies. But, I'm feeling very pregnant today so hoping things are progressing ok. I've made an appointment for my scan next Monday so at least I will know one way or another on the first possible day when I am back in the UK. Of course it's still cold and miserable over here and I just saw on TV that it's the hottest day of the year in the UK. I sure didn't pick a good week to be on holiday!

I had my scan today. It wasn't good news. There was a sack but nothing in it... I had no more bleeding but it was a missed miscarriage. I was expecting it so feeling sad but glad to have the answer. It's my DD's 1st birthday today so I'm celebrating what I have rather than what I don't. Better luck next time - and I'm sure there will be a next time.

Oh Mintie so sorry to hear that. Take care of yourself and enjoy your DD's birthday. Better luck next time as you say.
