Anyone know what causes baby brain or whatever people like to call it? Is it to do with hormones or just that your mind is focused on other things?

Do these sound like typical occourances?

  • mixing up Names that spund similar such as Polly/Holly
  • Sometimes taking longer to get a word or saying wrong thing!

Thank you muchly ( this is on behalf of my friend who was worrying herself silly there is something wrong her)

I once spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to open my front door with my travel card. I got very weepy and a bit panicked about it until I worked out that I needed to use my keys! Blush

So, erm, I'm hoping it's normal!

In my first trimester when I was reading up on this I read that it was to do with reduced blood flow to the brain, but didn't make a note of where I read it so I'm afraid I can't guarantee that's right or send you in the direction of the relevant research.

Sounds feasible to me though!

Definitely normal, although I don't know what causes it.

A few weeks ago I offered a guest at work a drink, made it and then drank it myself BlushGrin

Yes, I also read that it's due to blood flow being directed away from the brain (ie: to uterus)

If it makes your friend feel any better, it comes in waves. I seem to get it badly for a few days when I loose/forget everything. Took in one meeting to drawing pictures as I couldn't remember the name of anything. When it gets bad I try and stick to damage limitation knowing that it will pass and I will be able to function again in a few days time. (Although it does get embarressing when I cannot remember close people's names!)

I always thought it was from women switching off when pregnant and getting so bogged down with baby stuff to focus at work. Now I have it myself I realise that it isn't that I am distracted with something else my brain has just stopped working!! Tiredness and stress makes it worse.

I shall pass it on :)

I had an argument with a sales assistant in John Lewis as I was convinced he'd overcharged me for something (clearly my mats is rubbish), poor guy looked so confused! Also, today I completely forgot my PIN in th supermarket - so embarrassing!

Ha. When speaking to one of my friends, he mentioned birthday. I panicked and said "oh god I'm so sorry, have I forgotten it?"
SHe replied " no, you were there, we went out for a meal!!
Confused couldn't remember!!
