You should contact your mw, but tbh, I honest I had this quite a lot during first tri & up to 14 weeks (I refused to have sex from then until I'd had my 20 wk scan cos I was so scared). Had my 20 wk scan on thurs - we had sex tjurs night & no bleeding! Apparently it is common, I was too embarrassed to contact mw, but you should really. Congrats on your preg - it's my first too!

I didn't want to look like one of those weird people who go running for help every time I feel a twinge kinda thing! I thought it would be normal, just wanted to double check.
Might mention it to mw on next appt!
When are you due? :) x

Yes I did, we had sex one night and then the next afternoon I had a little bit of spotting. I called my midwife and she came out to listen to the baby's heartbeat and all seemed fine. I think if it had carried on or was red/ painful she would have sent me to hospital.

I do seem prone to spotting though, I had it up until 24 weeks in my last pregnancy and I've had it twice in this pregnancy. I seem to get it with excessive activity. It's never much, just enough to make a tiny mark around the size of a 10p piece and then a little when I wipe. I hate it though as it worries me and I've decided to not have anymore sex until the baby is almost due/ safe.

Call her and hopefully she will come and check all is ok and then decide on what to do next.

It is probably worth getting it checked out, but I bled after sex in my early pregnancy. I think it is fairly common.

blushingmare · 20/05/2012 17:05

I had this too at around 8 weeks. Did a bit of googling and looking on here and it sounded really common so I didn't do anything about it. But when I saw my midwife at my booking in appt I got a right telling off as she said that bleeding during pregnancy is never "normal", so she sent me for an early scan. Have me a bit of a shock how seriously she seemed to take it, but everything was fine and I'm now 38 weeks. So in short, I'm sure everything is fine, but yes you should probably get it checked out - I think they will take any kind of bleeding seriously so don't worry about wasting their time!

becca do you know what your blood type is?

if it is anything negative (for example, I'm O-negative), then you need to get to A&E whenever you have bleeding, even if it's just spotting. not because it's a disaster, but because they need to give you an injection to keep baby healthy. if you're bleeding and have negative blood, and baby has positive blood, then you need the injection to stop your body from creating antibodies against the baby (which can make the baby very very very ill)

i had this at 8 weeks, had a bleed after sex (got a huge fright!), and because my blood type is negative i needed that injection.

if your blood type is positive, and DP's is positive too, then you as long as there's no cramping/pain you probably don't need to worry about anything :)

applecrumple · 20/05/2012 18:48

oki it's only if you're in your 2nd or subsequent pregnancy that the antibody thing is important. For first pregnancies, there's no risk as your body won't have built up a defence against negative blood. I'm rhesus negative myself.

as far as i understand, it's not about it being your first pregnancy, it's about it being the first time your blood might come into contact with the foetus's blood. which is often at birth (meaning second pg is high-alert compared to 1st) but not necessarily. it can also happen if you bleed during your pregnancy, even if it's your first. or if you have had a previous miscarriage etc.

beccabubbless · 23/05/2012 10:05

Sorry I didn't give you an update, been very busy with morning sickness
The midwife was glad I called (thanks guys!) And I had a scan and they said everything is fine, she said to keep an eye on it though, so hopefully it will be okay!
Thanks guys :) x
