Is it true pineapple is dangerous to eat during pregnancy?

Only in huge quantities

WitchOfEndor · 19/05/2012 21:05

I ate a whole one after dinner and my waters broke with a 'pop' at one o'clock that night. It was four days before my due date.

Do you have your hospital bag packed?

monkeymoma · 19/05/2012 21:06

I think once it's in any way tinned or juiced or processed its fine

think you have to eat like 7 whole pineapples to get enough bromium to do anything, and even at that I think it only helps things along if they are iminent anyway (like sex does)

SwissArmyWife · 19/05/2012 21:07

Wow, that's pretty impressive Witch!

I'm 15 weeks at the moment so obviously don't want to do any harm, but i'll definitely keep it in mind if I become over due Grin

Of course it isn't dangerous. Apparently eating about 7 of them may help bring on labour but would be more likely to give you the squits

littlemissnormal · 19/05/2012 21:08

Exactly what monkeymoma says, and I think that you have to eat the middle woody bit too. Gross!!!!

SwissArmyWife · 19/05/2012 21:08

How about pineapple juice?

Bloody cravings Grin

Oh my, I went through this at around 15ish weeks. I reckon I ate my own body weight in pre packed pineapple, think you have to eat a stupidly huge amount in early preg for it to do anything (I know it could well set you off when you're close to popping anyway) If you want it eat it, my thoughts is that you're craving it for a reason x

CaptainHetty · 20/05/2012 09:46

Yes... You'd have to eat god knows how much pineapple for it to potentially have any affect at all. And even then you're more likely to just get a very sore tongue and a case of the squits than anything.

I ate a pot of chopped pineapple and gave birth 12 hours later. I'm not inclined to think it was anything more than a coincidence :o
