How did your labour start?

This sounds daft as I'm a 2nd time mum but last time I was induced so labour didn't really start as such- it was gel then contractions pdq! Am now nearly 39 weeks & wondering if I'll recognise labour starting - obviously I will when it gets really painful : ) but I'm so keen not to be induced again I think I'm over analysing every tiny symptom so just thought I'd see how other people knew their labour had started!

My mucus plug fell out when I went to pee Grin

Then a bit of water, contractions started and 29.5 hours later he was finally evicted!

with my first my waters broke quite drastically and then contractions started about 30 minutes later.....i to was worried if i was in labour in the second time as my waters didnt go, i woke in the night with back ache, but managed to go back to sleep, when i got out of bed in the morning gravity must have done something as the pains got worse tightening and painful and every 10 minutes, when i got to hospital the mw said she thought i had a water infection, i was infact 6cm dilated lol :) don't worry im sure you'll know :)

Woke early morning with excruciating backache. That eased off over a couple of hours and developed slowly into contractions.

People will keep telling you "you'll know" and you will. Its very strange. You spend weeks questioning every twinge, then suddenly you know this pain "is it" good luck

Two nights before due date I started getting contractions, very randomly and just thought it was the baby pushing her head down on my bladder Blush
Was corrected in the morning when they were a lot stronger and was pacing up and down the hallway on the phone to the birthing unit.
12 hours later I was back at home with my baby :)

With a fucking painful, long contraction at 3.30am.

I started having contractions which quickly went to every 10 minutes and stayed there for two days! Then my waters went and DD was born 2.5 hours later.

With my first I woke early in morning with backache which quickly turned into contractions 8 hours later I had to push really hard to break my own waters and my daughter quickly followed. With my second woke early morning again to one small contraction which then led to full blown contractions straight after and hour and half later midwife broke my waters and my son arrived three quick pushes after. Very quick and very painful with second!!!

I woke up and my mucus plug had also fell out. I hadn't realised but my waters had broken too, but I was so tiny with DD and she was 3.5 weeks early too, so it was all a bit Shock lol.

About 5 hours later, I went into hospital to be checked over. They told me my waters had broken and that they'll probably see me again later that night. As I was in so much shock, I hadn't picked up on my contractions had started, but by the time I got home, they were starting to pick up. An hour later I was back in hospital 10cm dilated and an hour later after that DD was born! Lol.

So I should trust that I'll know then :) love reading how other people's labours started though the 29 hours actually makes me think fondly of induction Grin I still can't imagine it actually happening to me though!

My waters broke first, like in the movies! It wasn't a big gush though, more like I'd wet myself a bit. I looked at DH and said "Why am I all wet?" Confused

About 2 days before I had a show and my bump moved down.

i didnt know i was in labour because my contractions didn't hurt until they were every minute! i had twinges but id had braxton hicks that felt worse so i didnt think anything of it. it was my mum that told me i was in labour. i was talking to her but wasn't really able to focus and she asked if i was having pains. "i said only a few twinges nothing painful" this was also my first preg and after everyone saying how normally 1st babies in particular are 1-2weeks late i wasn't really expecting to go into labour before my due date. it was my mum that decided that my brain was taking a backseat so my body could do it's thing and get labour going and when she took me to the hospital they said i was 8cm and needed to get to a delivery room lol. once i got to 9cm my contractions were every minute and hurt like hell until my son was born so obviously i knew i was in labour by then but i was expecting to be in that much pain a lot earlier than right before pushing time. whole labour of about 4 hours! but i'm pretty sure that this is a rare case. most women KNOW when they're in labour either because of the pain, regular contractions or losing waters or they just know. turns out my mum did just know but i didnt!
