I'm 28 weeks and found out today I've already put on two stone. Not impressed. Isn't two stone what you're supposed to put on across whole pregnancy?! (I think I'd count as about average weight pre-preg - size 10)

Anyway, what I want to know is if I weigh this much now how much should I expect to have gained by the end? I'm panicking! I seem to remember reading it's in the third tri the weight really starts piling on! Please say it isn't so... ?!!!!!!!!

Are you sure you are eating the right amount/doing enough exercise?

babbashouse · 15/05/2012 19:44

Clearly not milk. I have spd which is making even walking horrible.

I don't know how much I put on (with baby inside), but the day after I got out the hospital I was 3st5lbs heavier than before pg.
Pretty sure that I put on more in the early days, and less later on =).

One thing I would say is, try and be a bit careful, it is nowhere near easy to lose it. I''ve only lost just over 1st in over 18 months. (I've been really trying most of that). This time round, I'm being really really careful with what I eat.

Best of luck in your pg x

In my 2nd pregnancy I put on almost 4 stone, I was devastated Sad but most of that was due to me being housebound in the last few months with awful SPD that left me unable to walk, therefore no exercise and comfort eating because I was miserable. I'm so determined this time around not to do the same again, but at 12 weeks my SPD has already stopping me walking for more that 15 minutes at time so I am dreading the weight gain over the next few months. Try to eat a little more healthy choices to out way the fact you can't exercise. Don't worry about losing the weight now, there is plenty of time once baby gets here. Just try to control it a bit more now

abigboydidit · 15/05/2012 20:04

I was a size 8 pre-pregnancy and would agree with ItWasThePenguins that I seemed to put most of the weight on in the 2nd trimester. In the end I think I put on about 2 stone in total but my weight gain totally slowed in towards the end and I was fit/active/eating wellish

babbashouse · 16/05/2012 06:52

Ok, I'm going to go with deciding I'm clearly in the most weight going on in 2nd trimester camp! Thanks ladies, for the straw to clutch to... x

No babashouse I'm same as u hun ! I'm 29 weeks was 14.4 stone b4 am now nearly 16 stone an feel like crap about it :(

AlpinePony · 16/05/2012 07:14

Please don't torture yourself about this - people put on different weights with different pregnancies and unless you're really packing it on (and I mean stones and stones!) then it's really nothing to get upset about.

I put on about 3 stone with my first and about a stone and a half with the second.

I have friends who have put on 6 stone and friends who've put on a few pounds - it really doesn't matter.

Pictures of people like Amanda Holden really don't help anyone - not everyone has a tiny, "neat" little bump. Whitney Houston for example doubled her weight when she was pregnant.

Gingerbreadlatte · 16/05/2012 07:30

answer here is - dont weigh yourself when pregnant!

teaaddict2012 · 16/05/2012 07:34

I put on 2 stone literally within the first few weeks , with DS1 I put on 2 stone throughout being overdue aswell.

been essentially housebound with many complications this time round, dont judge yourself pregnancy can be hell for some.

theressomethingaboutmarie · 16/05/2012 08:54

I'm with Gingerbreadlatte on this one. Midwife weighed me at booking in appointment and I haven't weighed myself since at all. I was a little bit porky before getting pregnant and have certainly over indulged on cake since the morning sickness phase finished. I look fine, I feel fine so I'm not inclined to depress myself by stepping on the scales. Give yourselves a break.

Flisspaps · 16/05/2012 09:14

What gingerbreadlatte said.

How can you tell what's unnecessary fat from increased blood volume, increased water, baby, amniotic fluid, placenta, essential fat stores being laid down for labour and breastfeeding, increased breast tissue...

You can't, and every woman is different. One will gain 13lbs, another might gain 5 stone. They don't routinely weigh pregnant women now - probably because it tells you nothing useful. Stop worrying Smile

sarahpip · 16/05/2012 09:23

Yes, I have put on 1 1/2 stone at 19 weeks. I did eat badly in first few months, but have been so much better in last month. I think (and I will ask my midwife at next appt) that quite a lot of it is water. I think that I have always had a problem retaining water and my ankles are already swelling if I sit at my computer all day. My belly is currently like a balloon, and I know it's not a real bump yet.

I agree with other posters that there is enough to get neurotic about. Just as long as you feel that you are exercising well (where permitted) and eating appropriate nutrients, then don't worry - fat will be, will be.

:-)

babbashouse · 16/05/2012 19:17

Thanks ladies, I do feel a bit better for reading that - I did feel really deflated about it yesterday.

Any happy stories about it all falling back off post-delivery?!

I went from being a size 6 to a size 14 after baby was born, then went back to being a size 8 (took 9 months to diet and lose the weight), then I fell pregnant again and have no idea what size I am now.

AlpinePony · 16/05/2012 21:24

babbas with my second I was pre-pregnancy weight at 11 days and now at 13 weeks am lighter than I've been in 2.5 years (2 kids). :)

cairnterrier · 16/05/2012 21:35

I put on 3 stone in first pregnancy, within 2 weeks I was back in my normal 'fat day clothes' (size12 - no idea what I weighed though)) and had lost all the weight by 9 months, plus a few extra pounds after that.

In this pregnancy I put on 3.5 stones but had polyhydramnios, 2 weeks later and I'm 2 stones lighter. I can fit into normal size stretchy clothes - nothing tight fitting at the waist as yet due to healing c-section scar. Tops are a little tighter but this is due to going up 3 cup sizes which will settle down as milk production evens out.

Plan is for sensible eating, walking as soon as I feel up to it and breastfeeding. I'd like to start pilates/ yoga classes in another couple of months to strengthen up my abs again as they are weak due to the excess burden from the polyhydramnios and this is giving me backache.

Fear not, you're not definitely destined to carry excess weight forever!

Bugnor · 17/05/2012 04:58

I'm 29 weeks and was a size 8 weight 8stone 9ibs on a bad day (!! Little did I know!) and am 5ft4". I now weigh ... 11stone 5ibs!!! Aaaaaarrrghh I've been eating so sensibly no crisps chocs etc but am eating brown bread etc. always thought weight would be all about the bump but my bottom and hips seem to be joining in the fat party tooo!! Am praying I don't put on much more Sad
