Hi
I'm 9+ 2 and have had a virus! I've been left with this horrid wheezy cough.
Can anyone recommend anything that I can take ?
Can I use cough mixture?
Can't sleep because I'm wheezing and coughing so much!
Your mn wisdom would be appreciated.
Thanks x

I had a cold at around 11 weeks and I couldn't have any cold/flu remedies or cough medicine (according to the pharmacist). I could only have honey linctus. If it's really bad go and see your GP and they might be able to help you :)

Steamy shower/ menthol on your pillow/ paracetamol. The world of over the counter medicines is closed. Says she of the horrible hacking cough (also 10 wks!)

Feeling your pain!

I'm 19 weeks and just getting over a horrible cold. It's left me wheezy and out of breath. I feel ancient.

I had buttercup syrup after having 3 colds (well 2 plus flu) in 4 weeks (thanks for that nursery...) It's my usual cold remedy of choice and we had some in the house. I took it after reading the bottle which says something along the lines of being aware that it contains alcohol if you are pregnant or bf-i was both Sad alcohol content is actually very little!! I'm not recommending it per se, as I took it without medical advice but I was desperate... ill, poorly toddler who was bf-ing any bit of energy out of me.

Also lockets and soothers and strepsils all appear to be ok. Again, not recommended by anyone just by reading the packet (and a nurse told me strepsils are ok)

Had 20week scan today and baby doesn't appear to be affected by buttercup syrup or consecutive colds!!

Oh no I was hoping you would be able to tell me of a Miracle cure for my hacking cough. I feel like I'm rattling the little 'olive' every time I cough.
I was such a prescription / over the counter pill popper before. Any sign of an ailment I'd take some thing, hasprin, neurofen, paracetamol, antihistamine etc. it's so hard not being able to.
Ok so I'll persist with my glycerin honey and lemon!! ( which isnt helping) and try the shower/ menthol etc.

Did anyone / has anyone else suffered with severe bloating. Honestly tonight I look like I'm 5 months. ( not good when I'm still hiding my 9 week pregnancy and am at head office for the week!!) Hmm

I always make my version if a hot toddy since I don't like Lemsip and not sure what's in it: slice 2-3 lemons, chuck in a few cloves, cover with water and simmer until all nicely stewed up. Add honey to taste for sweetness and take with paracetamol :). Makes enough for 2-3 cups usually. I used to add whiskey but alas have to do with just honey for now.

Hope you feel better soon!

Graciescotland · 14/05/2012 22:15

I had a horrible reaction to lockets last time I was pregnant literally wanted to claw at my throat and vomited into the gutter. Nice.

The hot toddy idea is a good one, boots do an own brand hot lemon drink which is just paracetamol and lemon flavour. Good for taking to work and a bargain at ten for 99p.

Thanks ladies.
What cloves do u add to your mixture? ( on phone so can't scroll down to see your name - sorry)
I've tried lemsip before and literally threw up in My work bin! Can't stomach them! Maybe a natural one will work.
Thank you Smile

MyTime i think she means the cloes you can buy in the spice jars... they get put in curries n stuff.

I'm 33 weeks and just getting over my THIRD chest infection of the pregnancy. The only things which have helped (which I'm allowed to have) are Covonia lozenges and - sad to say - Tena Lady Sad
