Horrible lower back pain and only 11 weeks - wtf?!

For the last 3-4 days I have been really struggling with pain in my lower back. It's concentrated on one side, right down where my back meets my butt-cheek, if that makes any sense?

It's like a shooting stabbing pain when I step up or down (eg onto or off a train), when I move from sitting I standing and vice versa - and sometimes even when I just walk.

Has anyone else had this? Could it be pregnancy related? At this early stage?? Ye gods I hope not, or the next 29 weeks are going to be interesting :-(

I am wondering if it's not PG related it might be cos I wear a lot of cheap nasty ballet pumps from new look which don't support my feel properly, so will be investing in some ugly sensible Clarks style shoes tomorrow.

But if you think this is possibly preg related I would be interested to hear...

Sciatica maybe? Start sleeping with a pillow between your knees now anyway if you dont already. Super super flats give me a bad back when not pg

I had similar pain too. Turns out it was Pelvic Girdle Pain. Mine started at 8 weeks. I just thought I had pulled a muscle in my butt, but the pain never went away. A good indicator of PGP is pain when turning over at night, I only noticed this pain after a day of doing a lot in early pregnancy, but later on it was every night. There isn't much they can do if it's PGP, but I do suggest mentioning it to your midwife and don't let her dismiss it as "normal pregnancy pain".

i have had exactly the same thing mousey for about two weeks now (i'm 18 weeks). it has actually got a bit better over the last few days. it's like a stabbing pain starting in lower back and going to left bum cheek when i stand up, walk, etc.

Have got an appt to see an osteopath on friday. we'll see if he can tell me what it is and if he can help!

Thanks guys! I am a little bit relieved to think that it might be something pregnancy related - was worried that I had just screwed my back by wearing such cheap shit shoes!

Will mention it to my GP when I go see them on Thursday - would be interested to hear what your osteopath says, nancy.

samralee that sounds exactly like what I have - it does hurt when I try to roll over in bed at night.

I had something similar with both my pregnancies. The muscles just at the top of my bum cheeks would get really tight, and the pain would go down into the buttocks. For my 2nd, I signed up for pregnancy yoga classes as soon as possible, and it did seem to make a difference.

I had this at about the same time and it seemed to coincide with my boobs going up about 1 1/2 cup sizes! For me it went away again, so I would think it was just my back getting used to taking the extra strain. Enlisting OH for regular back rubs seemed to help Wink Hope you feel better soon.

I started to get this pain at around 12 weeks. I am having twins but I am so worried about how I will feel at 30+ weeks. I get a pain down my left thigh, a numb upper bum and very achey pelvic bone. Not nice.

Phoned my midwife about it and she suggested a bump band and that I go for physio.

I had that, try getting your workstation adjusted at work, and also consider switching handbag to backpack to spread the weight. its much better now.
