A really stupid question about things that grow (not babies, bits of me)

So, I'm sure I will get a fair amount of chuckles for this, but I've been wondering. You know how your ribs and sometimes your feet get bigger/wider during pregnancy? Well, do they shrink back or will they always be bigger?

I'm 20 weeks and have already gone up a back size in bras, meaning that I have tons of perfectly good but now too small bras taking up valuable drawer space. If I'm going to shrink back after the baby is born (assuming I get back to my normal weight, which I'm still at but am well aware the last trimester is when I'm likely to balloon) I'd like to hang onto them in case my cup size goes back to normal too (I have a small back and large cup size which usually involves expensive bravissimo bras, so don't want to have to get new ones if I don't need to).

Similarly, my feet haven't grown yet but if they do, should I throw away all my shoes and boots or hang onto them? I've actually been looking forward to my feet growing as they're currently a 3 which can be quite hard to find in shops, I'm hoping I'll go up a size!

Anyway, if anyone knows the answer to this I'd love to know! I know I should just wait it out, but our flat is a little tight on space, and we're currently trying to de-clutter in a desperate attempt to either clear some space for the baby or convince someone they want to buy it from us so we can move.

I am only 17 weeks so don't know the answer! But I too have a small back and a large cup size for my bra's and grew out of them by 8 weeks. All my bras (and matching knickers) which are now too small I have put into a small vacuum bag and put them under the bed out of the way.

I hope I will shrink back down as I liked my old underwear a lot, and don't want to have to fork out for 8 - 10 matching sets once my weight settles back down after I have given birth / stopped BF.

My ribs definitely went back (eventually). I was in my bras from before pg after I'd finished bf-ing. I put on weight from the beginning in both my DD's pg & this current one, but I did get back to my pre-pg size relatively easily. Hope its the same this time around!!!!

My feet didn't change, but my mum said hers permanently got bigger.

Hey my bra size and back size went back to the same as before but cup size only went back after I finished bf when ds was 13 months. But band size went down before this as had to buy smaller band size (and go up a cup size) of nursing bras after a while but I'm not sure when this happened. Cup size went down a couple of months after bf finished. Feet not sure mine were wider but not longer depends on the person I guess

Bra size went back to normal, feet remain a whole size bigger than before DC. And my hair changed colour too - the delights of motherhood!

Overlovedbyfrantickitty · 12/05/2012 16:23

Panda, I'm interested, what colour did your hair change to? That's awesome!

I'm 32 weeks, and so far I've gone up a back size and my feet have gone from a 6 to a 7.

RockChick1984 · 12/05/2012 17:32

My rib cage is still bigger 14 months after having DS, more noticeable at the bottom of my ribs (they now flare out at the bottom) but only slightly bigger at bra level, despite me still carrying some baby weight.

My feet are slightly bigger but I now need wide fit shoes Blush I always had really narrow feet pre pregnancy!

BabyDubsEverywhere · 12/05/2012 17:49

my ribs went back down, ish, my feet stayed a size bigger for two years then magically shrunk a whole size again... my arse on the other hand.... well the less said about that the better Grin

PandaNot · 12/05/2012 20:59

OP My hair went from being dark blonde with lovely golden natural highlights to really dark brown / nondescript mousey dark colour! Four years on I'm now just waiting for the grey Grin

PickledHegg · 12/05/2012 21:14

My bust went from 32DD before pg, up to 34E late pg, then after remained 34 back but deflated down to a B :( (am now pg again and in 12wks am happy to report I am in a D again :) )

My feet were size 5 before, size 6 after and 5years later, I can fit into a 5 but too uncomfortable so I wear a 6 now permenantly :( wonder if I'll be a size 7 in a few months?!

Duckypoohs · 12/05/2012 21:17

My feet went from a 4 to a 5/6 dependent on shoe style over 3 pg, they have stayed that size. Although maybe I was just wearing the wrong size originally Grin.

Clandy · 12/05/2012 21:41

My feet got wider and 2 years later are still wider, ribs went back to normal although cupsize went down. Also I started growing armpit hair Grin

SweetPea3 · 13/05/2012 14:44

OP - even if your back doesn't completely go back to the same size, you could just get some bra extenders that give you extra hooks. I'm doing that at the moment whilst pregnant.

Someone told me that Victoria Beckham wore a corset after giving birth to make her ribs go back to normal!

mrswee · 13/05/2012 15:34

My feet went back to normal eventually after I'd lost weight but my bra size was never the same. I lost quite a lot of weight after my first pregnancy so actually ended up with a smaller back size but a bigger cup size!

startail · 13/05/2012 15:44

I'm very short in the body and my DDs pushed my ribs out and 11 years after DD2 was born I'm still one bra size bigger.
Not one cup sizes bigger, which would have been nice.
I have big hips and being a C cup would make a lot of dresses fit better.

My feet are slightly wider, but that may just be age.
