If you're buying a carseat from Halfords

Just to let you know that I have just bought a new maxi cosi carseat/carrier from Halfords and bizarrely if you reserve it online but still buy it from the store, it's £30 cheaper than just going in store and buying it!

I wouldn't get anything from Halfords which would involve them having anything to do with fixing/fitting/servicing at all after January this year.

DSS1 was treated to a new BMX bike from his Nanna in January. After getting Nanna to sign the checklist form before actually doing the service (I know, I know, but think if you were the one who's travelled halfway across the UK for a weekend visit and wanted to see the huge smile on your grandson's face), they proceeded to take an hour to complete the "service" (which was so much fun for me at 20 something wks pg with nowhere to sit and still suffering from MS). When we got the bike home, we found the following problems:

  • Chain not adjusted properly so it was loose.
  • Chain guard not fitted properly so that was loose.
  • Brakes not adjusted correctly so they would have worn unevenly.
  • New handlebars not fitted correctly so they were loose(!!!)
  • And when DP took the handlebars off to fit them correctly, he found that part of the reason they were loose were because they'd originally tightened the bolts too much and they'd sheared the threads on the bolts.

DP contacted a mate of his in the local Trading Standards dept and I sent in a complaint letter to Halfords. TS said that they'd had a number of complaints about them and asked DP (who's a qualified engineer) to write up a report of all the failings and they sent someone around to take photos of the bike. The response I had from Halfords was a generic complaint response apologising for the rubbish customer service and how they were grateful for my comments. FFS, I'd told them that they'd sold us a dangerous bike and they apologised for the customer service?!?!?!

Never again.
