Hello :)

Basically I'm 37 weeks with my first baby. For the past week I've been having really strong Braxton Hicks and period type pains with back ache.

On Wednesday evening I ended up having Braxton Hicks that were coming 4 mins apart with period type pains, then they stopped. In bed that evening I had awful back ache and period pains all night, plus the baby was thrashing about a lot (no sleep for me or poor DH).

I was okay yesterday, but today I've been having pains again with back ache and more 'tightenings'. I phoned the MW but no one was there so I had to leave a voicemail.

I just wondered if this is normal? Is it the start of something, or nothing at all?

Any advice would really ease my mind :)

I didn't want to leave you unanswered. It could be something it could be nothing. Most likely it is your body gearing up & preparing for labour. If its the start of labour it will gradually get worse and stronger. No harm speaking to midwife. With a first baby it is all new & unknown. Always get checked if you are unsure. With my ds I had no Braxton hicks or anything, labour started with regular Eros pain tightenings that gradually got worse. Phoned labour ward when they were very regular & taking my breath away. Not long now, enjoy some time with your dp, go for dinner etc. Your beautiful bundle will be here soon. I'm sure everything will go well. Take care x
