Hello

I breastfed dd1 and when I weaned her off I noticed for months after my nipples were discreting stuff that went hard on them. My nipples are very sensitive and I cant even touch them never mind remove the stuff. Went to gp who just grabbed them one by one and wiped it off hard - ouch! He told me if it came came he would give me a cream.

Anyway it didnt, few years later I am now 7 months pregnant and a few weeks ago I noticed the ends of my nipples look a bit crusty? I know they can leak coloustrum but I have not seen it come out so I assume this is what this crusty stuff is right?

The tips of my nipples are very hard and and the crusty bits are black - yuck! I have tried to remove it in the shower but it wont come off and it looks like the crustry bits are my actual nipples???

Went for my 28 week app but saw rubbish gp that I dont like and I certainly did not feel like showing him. So I will have to wait until next Tues to speak or show mw.

Anyone else had or got this?

Thanks

If memory served me right - this rings faint bell.
Are your nipples sore because your boobs are tender or is it ( do you think ) because of this "secretion" ?

lovecloud · 15/02/2006 15:08

Hello

My boobs are not sore but my nipples have always been super sensitive pregnant or not.

When we make love I would kill dh if he nibbled or went near them with his mouth. Nipple stimulation has never done anything for me - sorry bit personal

I dont think there is an infection as there is no pain or smell.

How big are the black bits .... If my memory serves me right ... mine were just the bits of milk stuck in the wrinkles. They came out OK and without any pain.
TMI ???? Sorry

I have a cream white crusty bit in the middle of each one, I am 26 weeks pregnant with my third

helsi · 15/02/2006 16:34

have you mentioned it to your midwife?

lovecloud · 15/02/2006 20:05

Hello

I was supposed to see my mw this week but she went on holiday so i saw my gp who i dont really feel comfortable with and is always useless with women related problems so I thought I would see mw in two weeks but my gp said, i do not see her for 4 weeks as its my second pregnancy.

i will call to see if i can speak to her next week when she gets back and maybe she will book me in earlier.

the crusty bits look like they are embedded in the nipple, its not easy to remove and they are almost black.

sniff - sounds similar to me but mine is a strange colour.

I am a bit worried, I was hoping that after posting on here lots of people would reply saying they have the same thing.

....

if you are worried then you shouldn't have to wait for your midwife to return - there should be a relief or someone to see while she is away. I would ring the midwife office and ask them for some advice.

kayzed - i never thought of that.

i do wear a lot of black bra's!!!

I will apply some Lansinoh after my shower in the morning and see if i can clean it off.

I will ring the midwife hotline tomorrow to see if there is another mw for me to talk to.

Hello Kayzed

Just to let you know I took your advice, applied some Lansinoh after softening my nipples with wet warm flannels and gave them a vigorous rub which made me feel funny expecially as it start coming off. At first i thought it was taking my nipple off - yikes! Looks like it was just between the cracks.

So at last my nipples look normal again - thank your help.

Mumsnet is great!

no I wipe them on a bit of tissue

VeniVidiVickiQV · 16/02/2006 21:23

Had that with both pgs too. Im afraid im a picker like Enid

Although i had a rather more unusual problem in my first pg in that everytime i got changed or something caught or brushed past my nipples they would go white and then blue and were very painful. GP saw it happen once - he had no clue what it was.

sniff · 16/02/2006 21:34

my creamy bits are darker today! and i was wearing a black bra !! amazing I would never have thought of that !!!

Oh wow! Thanks kayzed. Thought i was just odd. It stopped when i gave birth to DD and b/feeding never was a problem as far as that was concerned.
