Everything's been just fine. Went to midwife and mentioned loss of fluid - clear, not bloody or smelly just quite a bit of it. Midwife is not good at poker-face; looked panic-stricken and booked me in for an appointment this afternoon. Questions: (1) do we think it IS waters breaking and if not, what is it? (2) are they going to frogmarch me into hospital if it is?

Starting to panic - I AM NOT READY TO HAVE A BABY YET!!! I haven't finished preparing my schemes of work and although the bathroom is now plumbed, the house is a tip and covered with tools and dust.

Please can someone tell me what I want to hear!?!

hello coops awww how panicky for you. erm, has she asked you to go into hospital as I was told that before 37 weeks mw couldn't check and they had to do it at hosi? anyway, the normal procedure is a speculum exam and a little cough so they can see if it is coming out. If it is I guess they will want you into hosi to keep an eye on you and induce after 24 hours if nothing happening. That said, if it is hind waters leak (slow dribble) they will just do bloods and monitor you well to make sure no infections. how are you now?

Hey surfmama. Thanks for that - I'm going to the local maternity unit (not fully fledged hospital) so presumably they'll do the speculum thing there. I feel completely fine apart from the panic. There is definitely a dribble.... Hopefully this will just mean lots of checks...

Just make sure you are washing your hands before going to the toilet also as if it is your waters the barrier to infection for you and baby has been breached. If you are confirmed as having ruptured membranes they will offer you steroid injections to mature baby's lungs and probably offer induction of labour after 24 hours. They may offer you a course of antibiotics and send you home with instructions to take your temp regularly and come back if any concerns re baby's movements/liquor changing colour or smelling or you feeling unwell. If you are not needing to wear a pad I would hazard a guess it is heavy discharge (or wee!) but if you need to regularly change your pad it probably is. Good luck

Thanks both - really hoping I've just lost all bladder control! (Never thought I'd hear myself say that!) Will post later this evening. Many thanks for the information. :)

Panic over - not waters breaking. More likely I'm wetting myself slightly (nice!) Thank you for your reassurance/information. :-)
