Someone told me that everyone now gets an extra scan at 26 weeks but I haven't heard it from my midwife - does anyone know if this is the case?

I've not heard this at all.

Flisspaps · 09/05/2012 21:28

I didn't and DS is only 3wo...

I've never heard of it either. Maybe it's with private healthcare?

melliebobs · 10/05/2012 03:47

Nope. Unless there is a complication. My friend had regular scanning due to a very high BMi. But if ur fit n healthy it'll be a dating/and or nuchal scan and an anomaly scan at 20 wk normally

Thechick · 10/05/2012 04:42

My midwife said the extra scan was at 32 weeks. It's a very new thing that's just been brought into play.

AnEcumenicalMatter · 10/05/2012 05:43

Not in my area. I'm 34 weeks and just had another scan this week (consultant led care) to check growth & positioning. My friend had regular scans throughout but her pregnancy was high risk.

McKayz · 10/05/2012 06:02

No. I'm 34 weeks today and didn't have an extra scan with the nhs at 26 weeks.

FutureNannyOgg · 10/05/2012 07:06

Here its 12 and 20. I get an extra at 36 for a low placenta and growth due to BMI.

Beans1977 · 10/05/2012 12:01

I had my 20w scan yesterday (am 21w) and the sonographer told me that's the last scan I get unless any problems are detected as the pregnancy continues.

Florin · 10/05/2012 12:27

I am 34 weeks pregnant and had an early scan due to spotting and then 12 and 20 week scan. No more scan now unless there is a problem.

Thechick · 10/05/2012 18:42

I've just come back from my 12 wk scan and they booked me in for a 22 wk scan and 32 wk scan. Maybe it's just Kings or London hospitals. The midwife did say it was a new thing so maybe it will only apply to new pregnancies.

justlemonade · 10/05/2012 18:49

I've had 2 pregnancies in 2 different areas of the country. Just 12 week and 20 week scans for me. I'm currently 32 weeks pg with DD2.

PollyIndia · 10/05/2012 19:25

Thechick, must just be King's. I am london too and had one at 13, then 20 (today!) and I need an extra one at 36 due to low placenta but that's not usual.

susiey · 10/05/2012 19:29

I'm at Uch London and they have introduced a third scan at 32 weeks for positioning and growth I believe.

Chunkychicken · 10/05/2012 19:48

Medway NHS Authority has introduced 32wk scans for all pregnancies according to my MW, as she was expressing Shock that they could squeeze it in, as in my health authority is difficult scanning all the women at 12 & 20wks. I believe its a scan to check baby's position & growth.
