Currently 6+0, and blessed not only with horrendous all day nausea and sickness, but also a heavy head cold, to the point I am being a mouth breather. Ugh.

Anyway, had a google, and baby center says sudafed decongestant is ok to use - great! Says I, and merrily squirts up my snout, bringing relief to my poor, broken shell of a body.

Then I googled further.

And it is NOT recommended - is in fact classed as a category c drug in pregnancy - no known risks to babies, as no studies done, but abnormalities caused in animal fetus'.

Tell me i've not just given my baby 12 fingers, or hurt it, by selfishly wishing to breathe? :(

I am no doctor but I would say CHILL OOT.

You can have some manuka honey, it's good for the cold, and you could burn a wee bit of eucalyptus oil in an oil burner to clear your head. Will make your house stink though.

I'm sure you'll be fine. Away and put your feet up.

I used a nasal decongenstant a few times while I was pregnant with DD (didn't realise it was a no-no).

She's fine, no abnormalities, perfectly normal.

Try not to worry. They always err on the side of caution when it comes to medicines and pregnancy - most are untested because it would be unethical to test them, so it's safer to simply tell pregnant women not to use them just in case.

Meanwhile, I hope your cold clears up soon and the nausea lets up. Good luck for the rest of your pregnancy!

Agree with all the other posts.

Try putting vicks vapour rub in a bowl of warm water, towel over head, & inhale (as much as you can). Repeat as necessary. Also, olbas oil is good.

As other posters have said, try not to worry, most women eat/drink/do something they're not supposed to over a long 9 months of pregnancy :) to help on the breathing front my dsis got a sea salt nasal spray from local pharmacy when she was pg, wasn't great but did help a bit!

Sympathies - I've been in this situation! I'm sure you haven't hurt baby at all.

I found that breathing thru my mouth at night caused me to wake up with horrifically dry mouth frequently, so sleep was very disturbed. One thing that worked was to go to sleep with a damp teatowel over my mouth. Sounds disgusting but I got a lot more sleep!

The other remedies suggested above are good too. Feel better :)

Thank you all :) I've calmed down, took your advice, and am sitting with my feet up, trying to stop worrying about every little thing!
