HI

I am only 12 weeks pg but over the last 4 days and nights my hip hads been giving me real problems it just keeps ceasing up on me. Not sure it is the pg or just cause I am overweight!! But only had it before when I was pg with DD but it didn't start till 30weeks with her. It is a wierd sensation just feels like the hip has seized up!! and really hurts when I move it. It will happens when I am lying down or sat up doesn't seem to matter. Has anyone else experienced this or got any advice re this!!

Thanks

K

I had the same problem in pregnancy, although it did start a bit later, but the only thing I tried for it was sleeping with a breast feeding pillow (not sure if that is the correct translation from german). The pillow makes it comfy to lie on your side (not my favourite sleeping position), with one end under your head, your arm underneath it the middle piece under your bump (when you've got one) and the other end in between your legs. Although I always felt better after I got out of bed and had a nice warm shower.

Hi Karen01

I'm getting pains in my hips aswell - I'm 23 weeks pregnant but also overweight and they've been painful when I lie on my side for quite a while now. No brilliant advice I'm afraid - I try to lie as much on my front as possible, and lie with my hands under my tummy/side. Makes my hands go numb, but at least feels more comfortable. If I'm on my side I sleep with a pillow between my knees - seems to help a bit. And get your dp, if you have one, to do lots of hip rubs for you - wonderful!

When I'm at work and mainly sat down, I find sitting with my legs as far apart as possible helps - but I'm lucky that I mainly wear trousers and no-one can see my legs!!

I had this with my first pregnancy and bought a thick piece of foam to go on my side of the mattress. It really helped.

I have also had aching hips for the past several weeks now. Only get it when in bed though and have just been swapping sides when I've got uncomfortable. Really does disturb your sleep though - tossing and turning to get comfy (I'm 37 wks). The last couple of nights I tried sleeping with a pillow supporting my bump which helped a little bit. Shall try dot1s suggestion and put the pillow between my legs tonight.
