Seeing MW tomorrow, until then, what are the 'flashing lights' associated with pre-eclampsia like?

I'm 32 weeks pg.

I had some whizzy floater type things in my eyes this morning - they looked like when you see film of sperm swimming around under a microscope, but kind of bright and translucent.

I've checked my BP and it is higher than it has been - 130/83. Last pg they would send me to the day unit for monitoring if it went over 90. BP is now 108/72=fine.

No headaches.
No upper gastric pain.
No swelling.

So could the floaters be associated with PE? Or just an eye thing?

I have a MW appointment first thing tomorrow and a spa day booked tomorrow afternoon which I don't want to miss

thanks

I had Pre-eclampsia at 36 week and had to stay in hospital untill i was 37 week so they could induce.

They only thing I noticed was the weird sqiggly things in my eyes and my hands and feet were very badly swollen

albertswearengen · 08/05/2012 15:47

I used to get this latterly in pg but I had quite low blood pressure - they said they didn't think it was anything to worry about as I didn't have any other symptoms of PE.
However you're right to get it checked out. Mine was like the flashing lights you get if you stand up too quickly so I think it was when my bp dropped occasionally

TheSoggyBunny · 08/05/2012 15:50

I had severe pe. No symptoms at all.

Except once, when bp was going down, I saw revolving chessboard patterns, bit like migraine aura.

you know how sometimes when you have bright sunshine through the window...(you remember - sunshine - the big ball of warm shiney light in the sky!!!) of a dusty room and you have all the little dust particles all floaty and shiney.

Like that.

I get the flashy 'stars' (like you describe) quite a lot. Usually in the morning and when I get out of the shower for some reason. I am now 40+2 and have never had high blood pressure or any other signs of PE. You should definitely mention it to your MW tomorrow though :)

HamblesHandbag · 08/05/2012 16:44

gah. I was hoping folk would post saying "oh no, PE flashing lights are nothing like THAT!"

I'll keep an eye on it and mention it to the MW. pfffft.

Sorry hamble, my PE flashing lights (in my last pregnancy) looked just like bright squirmy tadpoles :( So get it checked!

BlackOutTheSun · 08/05/2012 18:28

I had the flashing lights, mw wasn't worried was just told to call her back if I had any swelling in my hands and feet. Nothing ever came of it so try not to worry

I had this and it was low iron levels. If I looked at a light/window/tv I got squiggles in front of my eyes, a bit like after a camera flash but it lasted much longer. Definately mention it anyway.

HamblesHandbag · 08/05/2012 19:09

oh I'll take low iron levels, that would be fine (and nicely treatable!)

Hope you're ok HamblesHandbag x

I know that you've checked your bp but you need to speak to a midwife because she may want to check your urine too. Please do so as PIH is potentially extremely serious for both mother and baby and you can feel completely well even when it has reached quite an advanced stage. You can ring the community mw number, antenatal ward or labour wards as it's out of hours now.

HamblesHandbag · 09/05/2012 19:22

hi all,

I saw the MW this morning - BP and urine all fine thank goodness! I've been being massaged and pampered to within an inch of my life since then Grin

I think I may have had some more whizzy lights this afternoon though, but only when I was facing a large, bright window, so maybe it was just an eye thing? I've come home and checked BP again and it's fine. I'll go to the MW pop in session tomorrow morning to get checked over again though.

glad you're ok. Make sure you're resting, eating and drinking plenty too.

Pootle78 · 13/05/2012 21:20

I've had similar including room spinning like i've been on the drink! Spoke to mw and she said to keep an eye on it and see doctor if it continues, she wasn't worried as urine and blood pressure fine but said it could be due to low blood pressure.
