Just trying to get a handle on my weight gain this time. My main motivation being to not aggravate my SPD. The SPD means I'm limited with exercise. Doing pilates daily and trying to control my diet, I think that is about all I can do, not supposed to walk much even. I put on a lot last time, am I therefore prone to again and doomed before I start?

2nd pregnancy. 16 wks tomorrow.

Cant answer cos I'm 11 weeks on my second, but interested to know what others say. I put on 3+ stone last time and really need to not put on as much as i've found it very hard to loose again and not good for my back in the last stages

Alligatorpie · 09/05/2012 05:19

So far I have put on about the same amount with both pg's (40ish) was never sure of my starting weight with either, but I was at least 20lbs lighter when pg with dd and I really notice the difference carrying around all this extra weight.

3rd pregnancy here, started off at a high bmi :( so far at 28 weeks I've put on about a stone so 14 lbs I've not been really good but not been bad either had a lot of bread like toast and sandwiches but that's cause I'm working sometimes 12 hours a day and can't b bothered to cook so have a sandwich instead but now I'm
At the point I can't eat any more bread so sometimes I dnt have anything ! Not good ! I put on about 4 with first baby and 2-3 with 2nd so considering I'm 28 weeks dnt think I've done too bad ???

Sarahmarie2505 · 09/05/2012 07:42

When I put 4 and 2-3 I mean stones

This gives me bit of hope that I won't balloon - but who knows. I kind of had the assumption that mums and babies got bigger with each pregnancy although I'm not quite sure where I've got this from!

SarahM - A stone at 28 weeks sounds great to me. I dare not eat bread I would be the size of a house.

I'm actually normally slim (size 10 5'9 before 1st baby, size 12 before this - didnt' quite get it all off in time!) but I reckon I'm the type to bloat out with the hormones because I could not get my rings on until 6 months pp and suddenly shed most the weight when I weaned baby (cut right back on BF, my reasoning being that the hormones must of just kept all those preg type hormones going) my shoes didn't fit properly until 13 months pp. I'm not saying I wasn't fat but something was else bloaty wise going on too.

I know I need to stop the pudding(s) after dinner, the rest of the day I'm eating really healthily and well I hope I can control this a bit, I can't bear to think of making my SPD worse being bigger than needed, not now I have a toddler to chase after.

I seem to be putting less on this time, I put on three stone with DS, went from 10 to 13 stone, and was down to 9 four months after. However this was due to PnD which I'm hoping not to have this time round!

I'm 20 weeks with number 2, and have put about a stone onso far. I'm carrying very differently this time so it's hard to compare appearance, and I don't really weigh myself regularly. I'm also finding it hard to eat after about 5 pm, so eat a lot in the morning but then not so much.

I'm hoping to breastfeed it all off. Pass me a cake!! Grin

ItsMyLastOne · 09/05/2012 15:43

With dd I put on 3.5 stone. I'm only 10 weeks but really hoping I don't do the same this time, although I started this pregnancy a stone heavier than before my first pregnancy.

I've already felt a bit down about it all and am showing a lot. I've just put on loads of weight on my belly and a bit on my bum and thighs. I feel really conscious of it, especially as not many people know I'm pregnant. Well, they probably do, I just haven't told them yet!

I put on maternity trousers for the first time today too. Blush

thesmallestpotato · 09/05/2012 16:00

Despite eating normally I put on 5 stone last time, started out with a BMI of 19 so was slim to start with and lost it all within 6 months (breastfeeding and a week of norovirus helped I think)

The same thing seems to be happening again this time, despite eating normally I'm piling on the weight again - 24 weeks now with DC2 and have put on 2.5 stone already! The midwife says they aren't worried because I was slim to start with? Just hoping I can lose the weight this time too!

susiegrapevine · 09/05/2012 17:12

Yeah that's true smallestpotato if you start off bigger you are expected to gain much less! Am depressed with the pregnancy as I have already put on 9lbs ish! Keep forgetting to weigh myself 1st thing and am only 25 weeks! With 1st preg I put on only 6lbs for the whole thing but did start that one with a bmi of 32 and this one I started with a bmi of 29 so I guess I will put on more weight with this one. Just gets me down as I lost sooo much after the last preg and I feel like its all coming undone :(

sedgieloo · 09/05/2012 18:29

Susiegrapevine - I think you are doing well, 9lb in 25 wks isn't much even if more than you feel you should, don't get too down on yourself. To only put on 6lbs in the last one, is remarkable, well done, how did you manage it?

susiegrapevine · 09/05/2012 19:23

I just ate healthy and only ate the same amount as I did before I was pregnant. This time I know I am eating more but its cos I am hungry more. Was easier to control with the last one as I did not get ravenous as I did with the last! Thanks for the support sedgiloo I guess everyone thinks I am crazy for worrying about so little weight gain but when you are already over weight its hard not to worry!

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 09/05/2012 19:24

I put on less in my 2nd pregnancy that I did with my first. Not sure how as looked like a swallowed a very large beach ball!

sedgieloo · 09/05/2012 20:51

No probs susiegrape, keep going, you did so well the last time you can do it again. It is difficult when you are pregnant, I mean to say my self control would normally be quite good but sometimes I feel so ropey and tired I just don't feel like denying myself! But I really need to be sensible and do all I can to stop this SPD getting bad like the last time, I need to stay mobile for my dd. Susie - you are doing brilliantly, I shall think of you and your level of self control to stay in good health and keep your diet in check, when I want to keep reaching for the after dinner puddings and snacks which are my downfall - I think you have inspired me :)

2st 7lbs up at 36 weeks, think this is more or less same as last time even though I ate like a saint then and have been very much a sinner this time!! BMI was 25 starting so not a skinny mini but not ordinarily massive... do make big enough babies though, 8lbs 14oz for last one
