Baby not dropped?

Ok so I am 37+5 with first baby and my bump still hasn't dropped at all. Is this normal. Everything I keep reading says with first babies it normally drops at 36 weeks. Does it make a difference? So confused. Also baby has been head down since 32 weeks, is it likely to stay this way if it hasn't dropped?

Hi there, what did the midwife say at your last appointment - was the baby engaged at all?

My babies head was free at 38 weeks (which is a bit unusual for a first time mum)
It's unlikely the baby will turn though, i doubt it would have enough room at nearly 38 weeks head down!

Baby was free, and it wasn't my normal midwife so she just tested wee, checked size and basically booted me out. Oh well. Will see the normal one this Friday just wondering as a lot of people keep saying baby has dropped.
I only noticed as I was mooching at my notes, it said Free and ROA. I wish they would explain these things, but I guess in the day of google people can find out easily enough.
Thanks

This is a bit freaky, i had the exact same thing, even down to the fact it wasn't my normal midwife!! Shock
I felt a bit down after the appointment but it's not as unusual as they make it, the baby can engage at any time. I spoke to my active birthing teacher and she told me to be prepared to be a bit late and also use the birthing ball to help with engaging the baby
best of luck :)

My DS was only just engaged at my appointment the day before I gave birth at 38+2. He was back to back, and didn't turn until half-way through labour. I had very quick labour once he turned, and was almost pain-free after too.

(I meant that he was only just inside pelvis.)

I went for 36 wk check up last week and I'm now 4/5 (I think that means 1/5 is in the cervix) she said it doesn't matter either way and is no clue to when LO will appear. I wouldn't mind a bit of a drop to allow me to breathe a bit better. Bump hasn't dropped in fact I think its gone higher as my boobs and bump look all mushed up together like a big blob like thing

I didn't drop until about 39 weeks with dd1 and she was 9 days late. I dropped at 36 weeks this time and am now 38+3 and dd2 is showing no signs of coming. I wouldn't worry about it. Baby will get in position and come when he/she is good and ready.
