Does size matter??

My niece is 22 weeks pregnant with her first baby. Her mum told me that she might have to have a c section because of her size, she was a size 20/22 before she got pregnant. She is medium risk apparently, can she not have a normal birth? Thanks.

Having a high BMI is thought to increase some risks, but larger women can and do have vaginal births safely (and some have their babies at home)

A CS isn't a given just because of size, and she cannot be forced into one if she decides on a VB,

Size shouldn't force a CS, I was a rather large size 20 when having my first, and I had a successful VB, and had just as easy a birth the second time round at a size 14. My sister used to be a size 24/26 and she has had 3 successful natural births. X

She might be under consultant care but that doesn't mean she has to have a section.
I was a size 18 pre-pregnancy and my consultant has given me the go-ahead for a water birth if that's what i want.
