UTI not improving with antibiotics?

I was diagnosed with a UTI at the GP on Tues and given antibiotics (Cefalexin). I was still feeling pretty rough so on Friday the doc changed the prescription to Co-amoxiclan. Doc has sent a sample off for proper testing (rather than just dip test) but it hasn't come back yet.

I am still feeling awful 2 days after stating the new antibiotics - crampy, lots of braxton hicks, pain when peeing, terrible thirst, back pain, bad headaches, nausea and major fatigue. No temp though.

I have another docs appointment on Tues morning and can ring the day unit tomorrow if needs be but I was just wondering if anyone else had ever experienced this or similar and what eventually helped?

Do you have a walk in?

It is possible you are not on the correct antibiotics, and because you are pregnant and symptoms are worsening, I would say you need further treatment.

Can you contact a midwife? I wouldn't wait until Tuesday.

I think maybe your urine will come back and show the UTI is sensitive to different ant-biotics. UTI's are miserable. I remember driving to work and nearly crying by the time I got there. All I can advise is water -and lots of it. It will make you pee obviously but will flush some of the bacteria away and hopefully this will make you feel better.

I wouldn't wait till Tuesday - call tomorrow and ask them to call the lab. They can get a result over the phone if needed xx

Some UTIs definitely are resistant to certain antibiotics. How pregnant are you? Trimethoprim (an antibiotic) worked a treat on a UTI I had earlier this year, which had worsened with the use of amoxicillin. I was late in the second trimester (they don't prescribe it in the 1st trimester as it is a folate inhibitor).

I really sympathise - UTIs are so painful. Definitely see someone out of hours or at the hospital if you need to.

Thanks v much all.
I am still feeling much the same - but the day unit (midwives) told me to give it 48 hours on Saturday so I think I'll call them in the morning, if they're open. Out of hours doc if not. In the meantime I'm drinking buckets of water and resting.

I'm 23 weeks - hoping to get the right antibiotic and feel better soon as this has really dragged on and is a bit scary with the cramps etc. Doubt I'll get the results before Tuesday though - why do these things always happen on a bank holiday?!
