I'm only 10wks but I'm wetting myself with excitement. This is our first baby, and so far I have managed to contain myself by getting the house insulated and clearing loads of junk to make space, but now all I want to do is buy little blankets and sleep suits!

When did every one else start buying things? For this weekend, I will contain myself by painting skirting boards, but there are so many metres of those in my house!!!

A fun thing to do at this stage is go to your nearest John Lewis and Mothercare etc and try out all the different prams and cots and carseats. Hours of entertainment right there and you don't need to spend a penny at that stage because its all research, innit?

Weezie85 · 06/05/2012 09:10

Didn't buy anything until after 20 weeks, even then it was only the travel system as my dad wanted to buy it. Only just sorted the nursery out at 37+4.

AmethystMoon · 06/05/2012 09:12

I'm 33 weeks and have got most things now but only bought the odd cute vest at about 15 weeks. The pram and cot are worth researching and then buy on eBay much cheaper Grin

McPhee · 06/05/2012 09:14

I had everything by 20 weeks Blush. Now I'm 31 weeks and am bloody glad I don't need to go trudging around the shops. Why don't you earmark stuff online you want, build up a cyber shopping list. And I'm sure buying the odd packet of cute vests won't really hurt Wink

Flisspaps · 06/05/2012 09:15

Start buying what you want, when you want Smile

If you're glossing, make sure the room is well ventilated, the fumes can make you feel quite ill.

meditrina · 06/05/2012 09:22

You can these days buy what you want, when you want pretty much. No waiting round for weeks for stock to come in.

I agree that this is the time for research and comparison. And also that you work out (search old threads on MN) what you really need for a new born. What you think you might like during pregnancy can change significantly once you're actually baby wrangling with your new DC.

Northernlurker · 06/05/2012 09:22

I think a lot of people buy things after the 20 week scan. I certainly wasn't organised enough to do so before then. Grin However - you buy what you want, when you want, It IS very exciting.
I agree - do lots of research too - shopping but without the financial hit Grin

Thank you for the shopping and decorating advise, I'll getting an amazon wish list together! Maybe one little hat wont hurt :)

I'm 20 weeks today, we've bought a snowsuit (half price) a baby monitor (discounted at tesco) and yesterday I bought a pram toy. If all goes well at scan we plan on buying travel system after hospital visit on tues. I think we're just picking up bits and bobs when we can, esp if we see it discounted.

PurplePidjin · 06/05/2012 09:32

10+2

I'm desperately trying not to buy anything til the magic 12 week mark, but it's so hard, especially with my Mum trying to talk me into buying maternity clothes Grin

12 days til I can go wool and fabric shopping...

WantAnOrange · 06/05/2012 09:35

I'm 17 weeks and have most things. Blush

Do you like making lists? In the early weeks I made a folder on my laptop with a list of things I would like to get, a list of baby names, hospital bag etc. Blush Blush

I've also decorated my kitchen, dug out all DS baby stuff to see what I already had, started de-cluttering and spent a great deal of time with my cousin and her newborn to get my fix. Grin

Northernlurker · 06/05/2012 09:38

If you have a TKMAXX near you it's worth popping in and seeing what comes up. I was looking in ours yesterday (sil expecting second) and there were a couple of skip hop changing bags and some other very good quality stuff.

babybrain3 · 06/05/2012 10:18

I'm 19 weeks and have got most of the bug stuff-it's much easier getting it all when you have the energy for it and When you see a bargain!!!

KatAndKit · 06/05/2012 10:25

I started at 25 weeks. The January sales were on at that point. Previous to that I had spent some hours researching what I was going to buy on the internet. But didn't actually make any purchases until 25 weeks. Don't do it too soon or else you'll have less to keep you occupied in the final months.

ScooseLooseAbootThisHoose · 06/05/2012 10:28

I waited until after the 12 week scan then I went shopping crazy!! Grin

Alligatorpie · 06/05/2012 15:51

With my first, about 12 weeks.
With this one, I am 34 weeks and have virtually nothing. I move at 36 weeks then will start.

HaggisNeepsTatties · 06/05/2012 17:40

I'm nearly 18w and don't want to buy anything for the baby till after 20w scan.
However I have done a LOT of online research (and signed up to free 1 month trial with "which" so I can look at all the pram reviews etc.)
Rather than but stuff for baby over the past few weeks I have gone a bit mad on maternity clothes instead!
