Blood pressure - is this high?

Hi, am 30 weeks pregnant and had my routine ante-natal check yesterday. Blood pressure was 141/100, so the midwife checked it again. It fell to something/96 and finally 39/89. Nothing abnormal detected in water sample and everything else all ok.

I'm a bit worrried about my blood pressure, but my midwife doesn't want to see me for a fortnight. My concern is, is it too long between appointments, given that I will have no idea how my blood pressure is? Or is this reading ok?

Thanks in advance,

what was it when they measured it at the beginning of your pg?

I presume you mean 139/89?

Enid · 14/02/2006 08:11

141/100 does sound high to me

think as it went down to a more normal reading that she would jsut elave it at 2 wks. but if you are worried go back to gp next week and ask for him/her to take your bp

pacinofan - what was your blood pressure at the very beginning of your pregnancy (booking visit).

If there is a marked increase from that you should have it rechecked sooner IMO.

Hi, thanks for your swift responses.

Enid, yes, I meant 139/89.

Mears, my bp at booking in was 123/75. Am looking at my notes, the lower figure has always been in the eighties until 2 weeks ago when it dropped to 126/76. That's why I'm worried, it does seem like a bit of a leap.

Should I get this checked again and if so, when?

Tia,

pacinofan - I would phone your midwife and tell her you are concerned. The fact that you did not have protein in your urine is a good sign. I think it would not be a bad idea to have it checked sooner though. If midwife cannot come then you could see GP. Better if it is same person though.

Thanks mears, will contact midwife and get it checked.
