Fetal fibronectin positive result

26 weks plus 3 days and Just spent a lovely 36 hours in hospital with stomach cramps and contractions. But cervix looks ok. Have had steroids and my fetal fibronetin test came back positive. Has any one had any experience of this the doctors did not seem overly concerned by the positive result as said you can get false negatives?! But it can indicate the risk of pre term labour!!

Any one else had positive test and what happened subsequently?

hiya,

How scary for you, hope it is calming down. I had a negative result from my test earlier in pg but I have had a look in my "having a premature baby" book from Tommy's so I guess this is the answer - "it is possible to get a false positive although it is useful as an indication for women who are high risk or have had symptoms".

Saying that, there are also things that they can do to slow down or stop a labour if it does progress. If your cervix is unchanged then that is a good sign and I'm sure the drs will be watching you like a hawk.

I had my first LO at 32 weeks, a terrible worry but she is fine now aged 2. There are lots of positive stories on here if you do end up having a preemie.

Good luck with everything, just take it as it comes...
