28 weeks and spotting on and off - looking for similar tales...

hi all,

won't bore you with too many details, but have had spotting/light bleeding for about 10 days now. Have been to get checked up 4 times now, including an over night stay in hospital. Have had several traces on the baby, lots of internal exams, swabs, ultrasound, urine, blood pressure etc...baby is happy, cervix is happy, placenta is high and happy, and basically the docs aren't worried. I may have some cervical erosion but they can't be sure. Its Just One Of Those Things it seems and sometimes they never find the cause. Midwives said they see this all the time, often even heavier bleeds. I have no cramps or pain and baby is moving as normal. I was last in three days ago and had steroid jabs for the baby's lungs just to be on the safe side, although there is no indication that I'm in early labour, its just hospital precaution. I had no bleeding for about 48 hrs and then a little bit this morning. Am not worried really, if it is cervical erosion then I think it can just keep happening on and off, and unless I get cramps, decreased baby movements or a lot more bleeding, the docs really aren't worried at all.

Having said all that, I'd much rather have no spotting at all, and that it would just go away! Any bleeding down there is alarming.

Just wondering if anyone else had this in their pregnancy? Am I going to just have to get used to it for the next 12 weeks...?

Suddenly pregnancy not as fun anymore.

Am going in tomorrow for a GTT so planning to swing by the obs assessment unit anyway to see if they can give me another reassuring listen into the heart beat if nothing else.

No horror stories please...I have Google for that!

No experience I am afraid, but I am 28 weeks after several miscarriages and just wanted to extend sympathy and also bump it back up to the top so someone else with wiser words might see it! I don't know much about bleeding later in pregnancy but I do know scores of people who have had all sorts of spotting and full on bleeding earlier on and everything has been absolutely fine. There is a lot going on down there!

It sounds good that the docs think it is all ok and yes it might just be 'one of those things'. Pregnancy with worry ain't much fun at all, I agree. Good luck and I hope someone else is around soon with more to offer!

Not entirely the same, but was admitted to hosp at 22wks following bleeds (due to PP), it's all stopped now but I know how utterly worrying it is to be on constant knicker/pad watch for spotting. . I was so afraid to go to the toilet, and had to prepare myself everytime I did go, just incase there was any more. I even started crossing my fingers. But it sounds like you're being well looked after, and sometimes it can take a while for the spotting to clear completely (whatever is causing it). Fingers crossed the spotting stops for you very very soon, and you can take it easy. :)

Hey, I had quite a big bleed (but painless) at 28 weeks last time. Was in hospital overnight and the bleeding stopped so was discharged. A polyp on my cervix was blamed. However at 33 weeks I had further big bleeds with contractions and turned out there was no polyp, rather the placenta was coming away... I was induced and gave birth. They don't know what caused it. Baby and I were all fine though!

I actually think spotting (not too heavy bleeding) is more indicative of a potential polyp (but I'm not doctor...) - did they talk about a polyp at all? They are harmless.

Hi - I had spotting from 15 weeks to 24 weeks in my last pregnancy. I don't think they ever put their finger on what was causing it but think it was just put down to cervical erosion. No-one seemed that bothered after the initial check to see if my cervix was closed.

It was always brown and just little dregs (with little tiny clots), not enough to actually mark a pad or anything like that after the initial patch, just on wiping.

Had it last week in this pregnancy (but that was after having sex - so none of that for a while I think).

Sorry this is grim, but when I was TTC (5 years ago) I used to check my cervix for signs of ovulation. Noticed that my cervix was always bumpy, so perhaps that has something to do with it.

Sorry, it's such a worrying time - because you're always wondering if it's going to get worse or if it's going to come back.

This was 10years ago this post hopefully you can help did it continue for the next 12 weeks? 27weeks - 5days it started now 28 I’m having same symptoms very light every time I go for a wee.
Went to triage said I have ectropian on cervix after examination which is very common and cause this but it’s so worrying to constantly see this and seems to be after I feel when baby kicking what feels like inside my bum also been getting a slight like nail stab like twinge below not painful just weird then I need to wee then I notice light spotting.

Can you advise how you went on?

@June2022 i have the same feeling of nail like twinge followed by need to wee and then spotting...did you ever get any answers...what did the remainder of your pregnancy go like? Would really appreciate a response!

hey I went to triage and they advised it was Ectropian on cervix and apparently is very common and they advised nothing to worry about but I did worry , I didn’t need to. The spotting and twinges did stop I can’t remember exactly when it stopped and the rest of my pregnancy went well I just had a few other personal things unrelated to this but delivered a health beautiful baby boy 🥰. I hope your pregnancy is going well. Definitely speak to your midwife team on this so they are aware and hope rest of your pregnancy goes well such a exciting and amazing time 🥰 x

@June2022 thank thank you so much for your response. Very heartening to hear of the happy outcome! Yes, my medical team has reassured me multiple times bur you know how the worrying goes! Hope your little one is thriving beautifully. Cheers.
