At what point in pregnancy should clothes get tight?

I am just 10 weeks gone and already my clothes are getting really tight - is this normal? I'm not sure whether it is due to baby or just due to the fact that since I found out (4 weeks ago), I stopped with the diet!
Friends of mine lost weight during first trimester due to sickness but I haven't had any sickness so not sure when the weight gain should start.

Lord I was showing by 12 weeks and my clothes had started really getting tight by 8 weeks.

I am a piggy when pregnant though and ate for england...sigh (paying the price now for sure)

With my first I couldn't get into my work troos after about 6 weeks. I think it's cos usually I am reasonably slim and as soon as i get pregnant I start bloating and laying down padding on my tummy bum and legs without actually getting "fat" or gaining any weight. I have done exactly the same thing this time, only more so, my skinny jeans were relegated straight away and I resorted to comfy clothes. I am not yet in maternity clothes but wearing my bigger jeans and comfy trackers and have had to buy some inbetweeny smartish troos and a skirt for work. I am 17 weeks.

I'm 9 wks pg with my 3rd and have had a "bump" for the last couple of weeks. More so this week. Definite pg bump and not podgy tum either. I did'nt show early with ds1 but did at around 10/12 wks with ds2. You're supposed to show earlier with subsequent pg's.

IamBlossom · 13/02/2006 18:50

I think alot of it is water retention too

HellKat · 13/02/2006 18:52

Iam- Same here. Normally really slim. I don't tend to bother with maternity gear (luckily don't put on huge amounts of weight everywhere except bump and a bit on thighs & bum) so buy jeans from Ebay (really cheap ) in the next size up. Hipsters are great as they don't touch your bump. I love my trackies too (absolute bliss).

ive been in pregnancy clothes since i was about six weeks this is my first usually im a size sixteen but because im a hairdresser buy slightly bigger for comfort and could not get anything on from that point onwards aslo my already huge boobs have gone up 5 cup sizes and im struggling to find maternity bras in a 34 k{blush]

Angeliz · 13/02/2006 22:35

With my first noone could tell when i was 5 months. With me second, alot earlier.
Now i'm on number 3, 11 weeks and i have definate pregnant belly and none of my jeans fit. DP will have to go into the attic for my maternity clothes tomorrow. Hardly worth packing them away. It's this inbetween stage though that's when you just feel podgy!

starlover · 13/02/2006 22:37

i was in them at around 12 weeks i think

ThePrisoner · 13/02/2006 22:42

My clothes were very tight by 10 weeks ... something to do with expecting twins ...

FirstNikki · 14/02/2006 10:27

I have grown lots but my weight hasn't particularly changed cos I am doing the slimming world plan which is fine during pg. I think its down to the muscles relaxing 'cos you really would think I have put on between 1/2 stone and stone I have definite belly and it start from just under my bust !

FirstNikki · 14/02/2006 10:29

sorry I am 7+4

LilacBump · 14/02/2006 10:30

i bought and started wearing maternity clothes at 14 weeks, but clothes were tight from 10 weeks onward. by 14 weeks the only normal pair of jeans i could get in was a size or two too big.

Highlander · 14/02/2006 12:30

I was 20 weeks last time.

Highlander · 14/02/2006 12:30

but I'm a wierd shape - very long abdomen.

NatalieJane · 14/02/2006 12:48

I was 8 weeks when I could no longer do my jeans up.

pucca · 14/02/2006 13:12

I look about 6 month gone at 14 weeks have also noticed with this pregnancy being my 2nd that my stomach muscles seem to have gone bleurgh! As if to say ..been here before!

KathrynWales · 14/02/2006 13:45

My clothes seemed to go too small about ten mins after conception.....

Now 22 weeks and have been in maternity gear for ages. (was size 10) think belly has had permission to rebel against years of salad...

pinkdolly · 14/02/2006 17:59

Hi Gettingfat,
I'm 17 weeks and have been getting fat since about 8 weeks. I've put weight on my bump, thighs and my bum (feeling quite self conscious about that at mo).
I think it kinda depends on a) how good your stomach muscles are; and b) how much you pig out when you realise you are pg.
With me I have awful stomach muscles due to having a 3 1/2 year old and a 2 1/2 year old and being too sick over the last couple years to do any excercise.
also I have been eating too much lately, addicted to cheese and cheesecake.
I was 13 stone after having my second child but managed to get back down to my pre pg weight. so dont worry about it.
Enjoy being pg and buy some trackies - I live in them.

sweetkitty · 14/02/2006 18:00

DD1 about 18 weeks
DD2 about 24 weeks whihc was odd as she was by far the bigger baby, have also lost it quicker with her, think she ate my fat.

Needed new bra almost immediately (gone from 34DD to 38DD) and in maternity clothes around 12 wks
