I'm almost certain I conceived 2//9/11, which means my due date is 8/6/12 (gestation is 40weeks from conception right?)
Date of last period was 26/8/11, due date would be 1/6/12 if going by that..
However, at my 12 and 20 week scan, I was told I must have conceived a week before my period, as my baby measured big, and they strongly think that 'all babies measure uniform size before 16weeks'. So the hospital due date is 25/5/12.

I don't know what to believe. I know that my first baby was very big (10lb 10) so we're expecting this baby to be big too. Surely the baby's measurements are not more accurate than my almost certain date of conception. Also I had a period after their date was. Babies might be uniform size, but give or take a few mm.s right?

It shouldn't really matter, except with my first pregnancy, I was pressured so much to be induced when the hospital thought I was 2 weeks overdue (a week in my opinion), it was so stressful. I don't want that too happen this time.

Can anyone advise? TIA

Gestation is 38 weeks from conception and 40 weeks from first day of last period

Yeah I would make your due date 25/5/12 going by last monthly period

Whysoserious · 01/05/2012 23:16

Yep certain - 40 weeks from last period. Ie. you're not actually pregnancy the first 2 weeks Smile

Well, I know I conceived on 5th Seprember last year (not a v exciting month Blush ) and my EDD is 28 May. So your EDD is right.

But really, your EDD is a guestimate: you could be a bit early or a bit late. I'm trying to view it as the middle date of a 4 week window, otherwise I'll end up eating pineapple curry on a trampoline... Apparently only 5% of babies are born on their due date.

Good luck - not long to go now. Very exciting! Grin

25/5 is right!

Yeah I am certain I conceived on 4 September and I'm due on 27 May, both by my dates and my scan. Wedding night baby!

40 weeks from date of last period only works if you have a normal 28 day cycle and ovulate on day 14. But it is definitely 38 weeks from date of conception, regardless of period length.

I would go with the dates that were given at your twelve week scan, they are correct about uniform growth rate at that point and it is quite accurate.

Agrre wit other posters though, only 5% of 1st timers give birth on their due date and you should view it as a 4 week window.
