...it seems my vagina is falling out!!!!!! Wtf??
Noticed a few weeks ago a bit of flesh protuding from vagina, had the obligitory poke about, googled
(& immediately wished I hadnt) and of course put off mentioning to midwife.
Finally mentioned it last week and she took a look. Said "oh, that's just a bit of the vaginal wall. That happens sometimes. Just from all the weight & pressure. Should fix itself after birth, or with a bit of physio" (
Then of course said that it is more common in older mums - I'm 36 and old, according to the nhs.
She seemed totally non-plussed about this, whereas I had been losing sleep for weeks about it!
Does anyone else have experience of this?
Is it is unconcerning as mw made out?
Is this a prolapse?? (stupidly didn't ask, as was just relieved at her reaction tbh)
Bit freaked out by it. Haven't even mentioned it to DH, and cringed as acupuncture lady asked for my notes and it is written in there now.
Along with the pelvic pain, sciatica, asthma getting worse, inability to sleep or get comfortable, piles etc (I'm 39 + 2) this really is the icing on the cake!!!

If as she says it goes back to normal after birth, then it doesn't sound like a prolapse. As you say yet another glamorous side to pregnancy. Keep up the pelvic floor exercises!

Missgiraffe1 · 01/05/2012 21:15

Eggs, I hope she is right! I have been really bad at doing pelvic floor exercises, but am making a point of doing them now. Actually, come to think of it, the mw didn't even mention it, which you'd think she would Hmm

Hi :) I have been having a really heavy feeling in my vagina as though things are about to start falling out for a few weeks now (am almost 22 weeks, this is my third baby, im 36)

Im hoping that mine is not going to collapse on me and have been doing loads more exercises to try to stop it happening and i think they are helping! so crack on with yer pelvic floor exercises as much as you can and dont worry you dont have long to go now! Then you can start putting things back to the way they were. They can fix stuff like this for you if it doesnt fix on its own, so dont worry :)

Good luck with it!

One of my friends had this.
I, on the other hand, thought I was going into labour on Sunday but I think it may have just been that I was constipated as, once I'd done a few ginormous poos, the pains went away. Ooops!

Missgiraffe1 · 02/05/2012 11:41

Poor you murtette! I've been driving myself nuts imagining that every little twinge/pain is the onset of labour. Really wish I hadn't convinced myself I was going to go early. Big mistake.
Do you know if your friends wall went back in after birth?

I had this but after birth. Stayed like it pretty much until i stopped BFing my DD. Plus I had physio and did PF exercises. I think the hormones make things lax plus the weight etc

It does get better eventually. Now I'm preg with DC#2 I am awaiting this joy re-appearing....
