I went to the doctor last week with what I thought was a bad case of excema (from overdry skin) She said it was ringworm! She prescribed Clomatrizole 1%(Canesten) and said to come back if it wasn't improving in a weeks time for antibiotics. I think its got worse. Has anyone else had this? How long did it take to clear up? Do you know if antibiotics/antifungal tablets are safe to use during pregnancy?
Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure about the treatments in Pregnancy, but I had ringworm a few years ago and it took ages to shift. I was getting it from our old cat, who wasn't very well, but I didn't know she was the source, hence the fact it took a while to get rid of. If you have pets, get them checked out. Once she died (sad I know) I got better straight away. So the treatments work within a week or two. Just check that the cause isn't in your home, otherwise it'll keep coming back.....nightmare!

We do have two cats and I have read that a sign of their infectiousness is bald patches which neither of them have. What treatments did you use?

First time I got it I went on antibiotics and some cream (i think it was the one you've mentioned) but it never cleard up totally. The next doctor (we have 3 at our surgery and I always see a different one) gave me a stronger cream, which worked better, but not completely. The last doctor went for a steriod based cream, which did the trick until I got it again and again! Obviously steriods wouldn't be good in pg, but if the source of the infection isn't in your house then anibiotics and normal cream should do it I reckon. I'd check you cats out just in case, or have you been to a friends place, where their pet may have it?

Will see about the cats. Haven't been to anyone else's but maybe DS has been exposed at nursery. He has had similar looking rashes (again at first I thought they were his usual excema reappearing) but his are responding well to a steroid based cream (fucibet).
It's the itch that's driving me mental and getting me down.

Justand update really. The clomatrizole didn't work and nor did Hydrocortisone. Went to my own GP (rather than work one) who says it's not ringworm (phew) but eczema and has prescribed a steroid cream (fucibet). He is confident it will clear it so am feeling less stressed about it now.
Thanks again for your replies.
