Hello,

The title says it all really Blush I have really over dosed on sugar this morning and am now feeling absolutely terrible. I am lethargic, irritable, can't concentrate on anything and just want to lie on my desk and cry- in short, I feel massively hung over. This happened to me a few weeks ago after eating an entire box of chocolates Blush and it's only today that I have put two and two together and realised that I must be experiencing a horrible sugar come down. Obviously I am laying off the sugar from now on but does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do now to make myself feel better? I am drinking water by the bucket load but not sure if it is counteractibg the sugar effects. I am a teacher and have two classes to get through this afternoon so napping or going home is not an option!

Can you still eat? If so, what about a slower release food like a sandwich? Should get your energy levels to rise again more slowly, although, speaking as a science teacher & someone who watched bang goes the theory the other day, the actual amount of sugar in your blood doesn't change significantly, but other hormones do, so its kind of in your head. Sorry to sound harsh!!

Can you work out when you get these sugar cravings? If its at a certain time of day, perhaps eat something else?

Good luck, know what its like to have to teach when feeling rubbish.

Go for a WALK!! You need to burn off that sugar! Stay away from the sugar (she says munching away on a nutricious non sugary thing chocolatebar).
Its really hard but try hard as I am now borderline gestational diabetes and it is NOT FUN. But if you overdo it, you feel crap (as you know) but go for a walk or move around or hoover or keep walking around in the classroom if you can to try to burn some of it off and you will feel better. And after lunch make time for a quick walk, even if its just around the building and it will help.

Hello ladies,

Thanks for your replies- thought would just update you. Felt progessively worse as the afternoon went on and began to feel feverish and shaky. Had to drop off a urine sample at day assessment anyway so stopped by after work and have been admitted! Turns out I have another urine infection, my 5th of this pregnancy, which has caused a high temperature, dehydration and high pulse rate. I am having fluids and antibiotics by drip and will be on antibiotics now until I deliver. Am feeling lots better now after my second bag of fluid and some codeine for my head- hopefully be home tomorrow if my temp and pulse stabilise.

So the sugar overdose was a coincidence but hav learnt my lesson nonetheless!
