...and I can't believe i'm posting it!

I'm 13 weeks and I went to the toilet earlier and there was brown sludge (10p size approx) in my knickers. My heart stopped as I immediately though it was a bleed. After gathering myself I realised it could actually be poo so to check I wiped my bum and a tiny bit of the staining was on the tissue. I then double checked by wiping the front and there was nothing but A LOT of clear CM.

So basically I must have sharted mustn't I?! Is this a normal symptom of pregnancy because I've never done that before in my life! And where did it come from because I didn't even need a poo and haven't done since!!

I have absolutely no idea why I am posting this repulsive moment except that I guess the initial fear that I'd had a teeny bleed is still stuck in my head. But if that had been the case then my CM would have been clear right? I've just got a leaky bum haven't I? (CRINGE!)

Whyso, is everything still the same? If so, try not to worry (I know it's really hard). I had what sounds like a very similar experience in this pg, round the 12 week mark. It actually started the day after my 12 week scan (which had been fine), and lasted for about 4-5 days, with intermittent blobs of brown pooey looking discharge. I was completely freaked out as I had a mc a few months before, but am now 36 weeks pg, and all is well.

I had another scan at the EPU while still getting the discharge, and they were unable to identify any source for it, except that my placenta was low (stayed low until about 28 weeks). My GP swabbed the discharge for infection (she pointed out that by this time it was a greyish yellow colour!), but this was also negative. In the end, another GP told me that sometimes an edge of the womb lining just comes away a bit (quite harmlessly), and obviously the only way out is as discharge/a bleed - I never heard this anywhere else, but assume he wasn't making it up.

The encouraging thing is that if your discharge is brown, it is old blood, not new. Hope you have managed to speak to someone about this today, and hope it all turns out OK.

Thanks for that Catsycat, makes me feel so much better. I went to GP and they have referred me to EPU so fingers crossed. Good luck with the remainder of your pregnancy.

Good luck whyso hope it is good news for you.

Thanks whyso. Hope all turns out to be well, and that the EPU can reassure you.

I would give your MW a tinkle but I think you'll be fine Smile

Pregnancy not glam... I wet myself waiting for a bus when I was pregnant, not great but 'twas funny after I got over the shock and humiliation.
