Sciatica

Has anyone else had sciatica during their pregnancy? I have discovered that it is not pregnancy related, however the usual pain killers are off limits and it bloody hurts, feels like someone stabbed me in the ass! How did other people handle the pain?

Less than impressed that it seems to get worse in the car and meant to be going to a gig next week :(

I had/have it. massages with hot olive oil, heat and lying down on my side helped. i also carried a cane for about a week when it got really bad and I started to loose sensation in my right leg. It has almost gone away for lasts eek or so so don't worry too much it might end soon - by the end of the pregnancy anyway.

I did a lot of swimming - back & front crawl, no breast stroke. Also pregnancy yoga: my teacher always did 1 or 2 positions that were particularly good for sciatica.

Mine disappeared completely after that so either I headed it off at the pass before it got really bad, or it wasn't sciatica at all, just a strained muscle or something.

I had it for a few weeks, it is incredibly painful. Then one day I woke up and it had gone, rely hoping it doesn't come back.

Thanks for the advice ladies, iv given the heat a go, and just trying to stay comfy. I'll give the swimming a go as soon as the nausea passes!
