How soon before labour can you lose your cervical plug?

Hi there, im a first time mum.. Now 37 weeks.
Ive only recently looked up on the net what the cervical plug actually looks like and only then realised i think i have actually lost mine around 3-4 weeks ago? Is this possible?

Don't think you'll have lost the whole plug so soon, but you definitely can lose bits of it, esp after sex etc. Lost a fair bit between 34-36 weeks, but MW said it regenerates itself throughout pregnancy.

Similar to Annie, 7am it went and ds arrived 1:35pm Grin (twenty mins after I arrived at hospital and had yet been examined)

I lost mine night before; if you are 'thinking' you have you probably haven't but as Plimpies says just bits of it. I lost a tiny bit (about just under inch long) and wondered; then I got the real plug that was a hideous and massive mucus monster on my toilet paper.

I considered photographing it to share in situations such as this...! I think I remember reading though that it can come out a fair while before but I'd say you're on your way.

I lost some of mine (second pregnancy) at 22 weeks the day after I got married...I had terrible food poisonning and it started off contractions - I was very worried and went straight to delivery suite where they managed to stop the contractions and told me that actually you can lose small amounts of your plug throughout pregnancy through just the baby moving, having sex (!) etc and it will repair itself again.

I was very alarmed when I wiped and saw it as it was SO much and I did kind of think "oh my god i'm having this baby! help!" but everything was ok thankfully - i am now 33 weeks.

So just because you've lost much or some of your plug doesn't necessarily mean you will definitely go into labour, or have the baby, however the later you are in your pregnancy the more likely this might be.
