Have been invited to my friends baby shower soon. Have never been to one before & I'm not sure what to get her.
When I had kids people didn't really seem to have them (except on Friends...)
Is it just a way of making sure the mum to be gets pressies too? I know am terribly cynical!
Would you bring baby gifts? Don't imagine you would do that till baby was born?
Anyone been to any?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I have and tbh I'm not a fan. Ones I went to some people bought presents and some people preferred to wait. Depending on what you're doing probably ok just to bring some cakes (if at a friends house) and maybe a token small gift or jokey gift

Tbh i've always thought them an American thing but i've had several friends ask if i'm having one.

Personally I don't do girlie parties so it sounds painful! Well prob just incorporate one into a BBQ we are already hosting lol.

No idea what I would take to one! Maybe spa vouchers...

My friend threw me a surprise and very unexpected baby shower when I was pregnant with ds1. It was lovely. I was given a voucher for a pregnancy massage, a few books - guess how much i love you/ attachment parenting/breastfeeding 'so that's what they're for', make up (touche éclat, bare minerals powder, bronzing pearls - all things to help not look so tired when baby arrives) baby essentials bag with infacol, calpol, baby gro, teddy, socks, carpet cleaning spray! A bumbo, a handmade patchwork blanket and a book made by my best friend with tips from mums/grandma's she knows.

A sponge and a bar of soap. And a very small towel. Mind you, I've always bathed mine.

Was that instead of giving gifts when the baby was born Downbytheocean?

Downbytheocean · 27/04/2012 21:15

Mostly, ones from friends were as the gifts were there ready to use when baby arrived.

I took a memory box and my favourite book from when I was a child. IMO I would not expect a gift but would be having a baby shower in order to celebrate upcoming arrival with friends and family, maybe that's just me...
