Scan at 10ish weeks

I've booked a privte scan for next Thursday as my partner won't be in the country for the 12 week scan (or the 20 week scan). So have booked this so that he has a chance to see the baby. If I go by my last LMP and a 28 day cycle I'm 10 weeks today (so 10+6 on Thursday) but I'm not regular so I'm probably a bit less than that.

What I'm wondering is whether they'll do the scan 'normally' or trans vaginally at 10 weeks? Also, do you think they'll be able to tell if everything's ok? I fell pregnant (not planned) on loads of medication and am really worried it's caused damage xx

I had scans at around 6 weeks and 8 weeks - both were done externally (although normally I think it would be done vaginally at 6 weeks) and on both could see a heartbeat.

Sorry, I'm not sure to what extent they can tell everything is ok. I guess the main thing at this stage is to see a normal heartbeat. Good luck!

With DS I had my "12 week" scan at 10+6 as that was just when it was booked at the hospital and there were no issues with the timing impacting anything that they needed to find out at that stage. They scan externally and they will be able to tell you if everything is progressing as it should be as they would if you were actually 12 weeks.

Generally the 20 week scan is where they carried out a more detailed check for any abnormalities, I think this is just because the baby is bigger at that stage so they can see more detail in places such as the heart.

I didn't have a nuchal fold test so don't know how your dates would impact that, I'm sure someone will be along shortly who does know.

I had a scan at 7 weeks and it was external- I also had my '12 week' scan when I was 11+1 and that was done externally too. Hope that helps

My 12 week scan with dd was done at 10+4. No question about it, was done externally. Could see everything clearly, brain, heart chambers, tongue etc.

I had a scan at 6 weeks in this pregnancy externally, although everything was very small they did see heartbeat.

Thanks everyone - that's put my mind at rest xx

I had private scans at around 8 and 10 weeks done as I thought I was further along than I was and then wanted to check on growth.

Both were done externally then internally for a better picture - the internal ones - esp the 10 week - were very clear!

Hope that helps.

I had a private scan at 9 weeks, which they did via the tummy, and the sonographer was able to see everything they shoud, including heartbeat, and they was able to say that everythign looked fine for that stage. Baby is still quite small, so they do warn you about that and the fact it's not fully formed, but I was able to listen to heartbeat, which was lovely. :)
Good luck

I had a private scan at 10 weeks. It was done externally and was fab, extremely clear. We went to a clinic where a specialist did it rather that just a sonographer and he completly checked out our baby and also said although he couldn't measure the nucual fold as it was too early he could see it would be fine. Our pictures from the private 10 week scan were better than our 12 week nhs ones. I loved it.
