Evil Toast - WHY?

colditz · 11/02/2006 13:31

Every time I have so much as a bite of toast, I get heartburn for the rest of the day.

But I love toast! I have tried all different sorts of breads and spreads, it makes no odds, I always get heartburn.

My query is this - how can something so inoccuous cause such horrendous stomach upset? I thought toast was supposed to be gentle food!

Perhaps it's your body rejecting all the free radicals in over cooked bread?!

Maybe lightly toasted will be better..

don't know colditz but my mum has stomach ulcery sort of problems and finds that bread gives her the most horrendous heartburn ever. she just has to avoid it as much as poss.
when i was preg, broccolli used to make heave. such a healthy food and i would be retching over the loo!

Always lightly toasted, barely golden really.

It's ridiculous, I can eat a fry up with no problems, as long as I don't have toast!

Try crumpets instead.

Or toasted teacakes, scotch pancakes, toasted hot cross buns.

All breads gave me chronic heartburn with both my pregnancies.

When pregnant with DD I turned to Bombay potatoes instead (used to nip out from work to buy them every lunchtime!!)-no problems yet you would have thought the spice would be a nightmare.

Have you got the industrial sized quantities of Gaviscon yet? Couldn't believe the size of bottle my GP prescribed

No, won't touch Gaviscon, it's make me gag.

I eat Rennies like sweets instead. One thing's for sure, I'm not deficiant in calcium!

Gross stuff isn't it.

I always seemed to get really bad heartburn at DDs bath time when I was pregnant with DS. DD was 4 at the time and used to be in the bath watching me trying to take it -she thought it was hilarious.

colditz · 11/02/2006 15:07

It's all the bending over that does it, I get it whenever I load the washer!
