I'm 39 + 2 and have gained just shy of 2 stones. I feel huge so you are not alone currently a size ten Sad and over 11 stone (I have never been so heavy in all my life)

I go through phases when I eat loads and others were I eat very little and have to make sure that I have enough for the day. This is our first so hoping I will loose the weight (especially as we have been invited to a wedding at the end of May)

xx

I'm nearly 35 weeks and I've gained 15lbs, I was a size 6 to begin with so I'm hoping I don't go much bigger. I have a feeling over the next few weeks I might balloon. Especially with all the birthday chocolate I just ate! x

Hpbp · 24/04/2012 22:05

Hello, I know the feeling of being a whale.... 26 weeks +10kg so 1st8 of gain already, and for DS1 +2st7 at the end, I am getting very concerned. I am not very tall so the gain seems enormous... And changing position when sleeping is like flipping the mattress around for my OH Blush
that being said, I lost all of it a month after I stopped breast feeding so i feel confident
I am more concerned about gestional diabetes, high blood pressure.... Than the weight gain itself TBH

Sarahmarie2505 · 25/04/2012 07:47

I gained loads with my first and quite a bit with 2nd ! Thing is I haven't really been wanting to eat anything but bloody bread! Which is bad and that doesn't help! I'm also not walking as much as I'm jus so tired and my pelvic bones really ache bad afterwards :(

MissPollysTrolleyed · 25/04/2012 07:56

Same here with the bread. I'm 17 weeks and have already gained 9lbs. I do a reasonable amount of walking but am generally much less active than in my last pregnancy as I've got really low blood pressure and mostly feel like curling up in a ball rather than springing off to pregnancy pilates like last time Sad.

hippieshake · 25/04/2012 09:10

Does the weight tend to drop off quite quickly after the birth? I've been reading about how much things weigh (like the baby, placenta etc) and that seems to add up to quite a bit. I'm hoping I'll only have about half a stone to lose after the birth x

RockChick1984 · 25/04/2012 13:18

I lost about a stone from giving birth, nothing at all while breastfeeding despite eating healthily. I had gained 5 stone through my pregnancy (although could still wear size 10 maternity clothes, I had to buy size 14 when I bought new jeans after the birth). DS is now 13 months and I'm around 10.5stone, size 12. I had been a stone lighter and 2 dress sizes smaller pre baby, I thought I'd have plenty of time on maternity leave to exercise and diet... Really didn't work out that way, I was far too exhausted!!!

HappyAsEyeAm · 25/04/2012 16:02

I am 40 weeks today, and I have put on almost 3 stone exactly. Much more than I wanted to gain, but it is entirely my own fault - I have eaten and eaten and obviously I have put on weight. This is my second pregnancy, and I know how hard it was for me to shift the extra weight last time, so I don't know why I have done this to myself again!

Sarahmarie2505 · 25/04/2012 16:02

lol bloody didnt with mine and like others didnt have time to exersise jus too bloody tired plus the cost of joining a gym with 3 kids is not ideal!

lol at happyaseyeam im the same its my fault too but i do think i carry a lot of fluid as i was told last time i had a lot of fluid ! and i find it really hard and slow to loose weight ayway

HappyAsEyeAm · 25/04/2012 16:05

hippie - well done! That's not much of a weight gain at all. I ahve put on a lot of weight though betwen 35 and 40 weeks (about 3/4 stone), so you may find that you gain more. I have been eating a lot though, as I said.

Trying to remember from last time, I think I 'lost' about a stone and a bit through the birth process (fluid/placenta/baby was 8 1/2 lb).

Positiveplus · 25/04/2012 16:05

Am currently 20 weeks and have put on about 10lbs so far - though bump (and my waistline / hips / bum) are growing fast!
I've heard weight gain can vary a great deal - of the people I know its generally between 2 and 4 stones!
I'm the heaviest I've ever been and do feel like a whale and a bit miffed that Im frumpy and dont seem to look nice in anything anymore! Elasticated wasitbands just arent sexy are they??!!

HappyAsEyeAm · 25/04/2012 16:08

sarah It took me about 2 years to get round to losing weight so that I was back to my pre pregnancy weight after having DC1. By that stage I felt that i could no longer call it 'baby weight' as DC1 was coming up to 2 yo! It is the only time in my life that I have ever consciously had to diet, and I found it so hard to be strict with myself. Me and exercise don't get on - what with work, a young child, keeping on top of things at home and generally feeling knackered, I have to lose weight through diet alone. As I said, I don't know why I have done this to myself again when I know how hard ot was to lose weight last time! I say all this whilst eating the leftover Easter chocolate.

MandaHugNKiss · 25/04/2012 16:08

I'm 37 weeks and have gained 10kg. I'm thinking that after the birth, I'm probably gonna be a little lighter than I was when I fell pregnant but we'll see. I'm not worried at all as I've never really gained more than I 'should' and it always falls off with the birth/immediate post natal period when I wee for england, sweat and generally breastfeed 24 hours a day... Grin

therumoursaretrue · 25/04/2012 18:03

I'm 22 weeks and have gained 9lbs, but looks and feels to me like a lot more!!

Murtette · 25/04/2012 18:20

I went on mat leave just at 35 weeks just before Easter and had put on 2st 3lbs then and was feeling quiet smug that if I put on a lb a week for the remainder of my pregnancy, I'd only have put on 2.5st (as opposed to the 4st I put on last time). However, I've put on 6lbs in the last three weeks - a combination of Easter chocolate & cakes & being sat on my arse at home. The horrible weather hasn't helped as on the days DC1 is at home with me, we tend to do jigsaws, painting & other stationary activies rather than walking to the park, having a kick around etc. I think I'll have put on 3st by the time I'm due.

Benaberry · 25/04/2012 18:32

only a couple of pounds when I last braved the scales a week or so ago (now 26+2), but then again, I had ample spare weight before I started with a BMI of 42 Blush. Same thing happened with DS, I put on very little indeed whilst actually pregnant, helped by not having the friday night bottle of wine, and cravings for granary bread, salad sandwiches and broccoli, whilst not being able to actually eat too much due to nausea/baby getting in the way...

hippieshake · 25/04/2012 20:17

I'm quite worried that I haven't put on enough now. 15lbs doesn't seem like much to have gained at 35 weeks, and my bmi was only 18 when I found out I was pregnant x

Enfyshedd · 25/04/2012 20:27

Hippieshake - I know you've said on the previous May threads about your weight issues. If you've been eating healthily, then that's the best thing you can do for your baby. I've only put on about 4.5lbs since my dating scan at 11+1 although my bmi was 34 Blush, and I'm now 35+3 but I've tried my best to cut out the cola & replace it with fruit juice or fizzy water, replace some of the chocolate with fruit, add more veg to my main meals, etc, etc, etc, and I suppose I'm feeling better for it.

It's my DM telling everyone about how good it is that I haven't put on too much weight which convinces me that she thought I would turn into a whale Hmm. Thanks Mum...

MandaHugNKiss · 25/04/2012 20:28

hippie So long as you've been eating healthily throughout your pregnancy (and by that, I mean you weren't intentionally restricting yourself in order to 'not gain too much') and baby/bump is measuring ok then I'd say you're fine...

If it's any consolation with my first, DD17, I weighed exactly the same weight on the day I gave birth as I did when I fell pregnant! DD was 7lb 13oz... and just worked out that my BMI in the days after birth was 18.1 (which you will probably know is 'underweight'). The baby will do fine - it's you you need to take care of. Are you actually eating enough, do you think?

hippieshake · 25/04/2012 20:38

Oh yes, I've been eating loads. I'm making sure to have a big bowl of cereal, then a snack usually of an apple or something. Lunch is generally a sandwich and salad, followed by another snack of yoghurt and fruit. Dinner is something veggie. I have more fruit in the evenings, then a bit of chocolate everyday. I walk quite lot with my dogs, so I think it might be down to that really.

The baby is measuring the right size for my dates too x

Sarahmarie2505 · 25/04/2012 20:46
