I have been getting pain in my hips while in bed since about 19 weeks pregnant. It is becoming unbareable and i haven't slept without waking at least 5 times due to the pain. I have tried body pillows, v-shaped pilloms, sleeping on my back proped up with pillows.............I am so so tired but have to drive to work everyday and then go home to a husband who works permanent nights and a 3 year old!
I'm almost 30 weeks and worried this might get worse before it gets better :-(

I had SPD with DS2 (no problems with DS1) that made sleeping very uncomfortable. If you think it could be this, I'd recommend asking your midwife to refer you for a physio appt ASAP, as they can take a while to come through.

I had exactly the same but the last two nights have been a big improvement because I finally gave in and used a pregnancy pillow a friend lent me called a Mumanu. It's long, you inflate it to your prefered height and you lie on your side with your top leg resting on it. It keeps your hip, leg and ankle all in line and reduces the pressure on your hip.

Ok, so yes, I still wake up to go to the toilet and to turn over to lie on my other side (and thus rearrange pillow), so my sleep is still interrupted, but the pain in my hips, which was awful, has significantly reduced. I could hardly walk in the mornings but it's waaaay better now.

It's a nightmare with no sleep and then having to get up early and work etc. I am currently 31 weeks pregnant.

Good luck!

me too weeze have 6 pillows at mo have tried every arrangement possible. wakes me up about 4 times a night and i get up for a bit as thats the only thing that helps... tried sleeping on top duvet etc etc. did have 1 good night no pain after reflexology but back to pain the next night. no idea what to do, hope we manage to get thro, currently resting as feel knackered and am working from home today, going out every day must be a killer x

oh yes and am walking like john wayne first thing. Seems to help with pain/clicking/inability to move to stand up with legs far apart!

Hello Weeze,

Got the same thing since around 17 weeks and now 25 weeks. I found the dream genie helped but I still sometimes get to a point in the night where I cannot get comfortable. Like Surfmama I find that getting up for a bit helps alot. It usually helps me go back to sleep again for a bit before work.

I do find that when I am stressed it makes it worse as I realised over the Easter Bank Holiday it was so much better and I managed to sleep through the night. (Obviously still got up quite a few times for toilet breaks and to turn over on my pillow.)

Have you tried seeing an osteopath/chiropractor privately if you can't get a NHS physio appointment?

I had this type of pain during my pg with my DD - I found the gentle manipulation by my chiropractor helped, that and sleeping with a DreamGeni pillow made it manageable.

Good luck.

Sympathy on this, I'm 17 weeks and have just started getting twinges of this in the last week - not boding well Confused Rushed out to buy one of those mothercare pillows which seemed good but is uncomfy for neck. If I just use it or any other pillow between legs I kick it out in the middle of the night. Gah!!!

blondiep14 · 28/04/2012 07:43

Ah-ha, I've just started getting this too (am 19 weeks). I thought it was because I've got so heavy!
Will try and sleep with my V pillow under my hip and see if that helps.

Badgerina · 28/04/2012 10:24

Me too Sad I've had this since 16 weeks. I'm 19 weeks now and have an appointment with an osteopath next week and have been referred to the NHS pregnancy physio in 2 weeks. Ask your GP.

rudbekia · 28/04/2012 11:06

I had similar in my first pregnancy - can highly recommend an osteopath, really really helped. good luck with it all x
