Would you get tested (toxoplasmosis)?

Hello,

I am 12 weeks pregnant (scan on Wednesday) and stupidly on Friday ate a burger with some pink bits where it was undercooked - I hesitated but then thought it was okay, which I now gather was not the right approach!

Anyway, because of the (small) risk of getting toxoplasmosis as a result, is this something that you would get tested for? I spoke to my doctor's this morning but they were pretty clueless so if it's something I want I think I'll have to push quite hard for it.

I should probably add that I am quite prone to worry and fret over things like this, so wonder if testing would at least put my mind at rest, or, if there was a problem, alert me to it.

Any thoughts/advice appreciated, thanks!

Quite often burgers have colouring in to make them look a bit pink in the middle. It would be very rare to contact toxoplasmosis from this burger.

I requested testing as I had cats and do lots of gardening and live near lots of livestock including lambs which can carry it. It turned out I had not had previous exposure, but this didn't actually help me as I who use have taken all reasonable precautions anyway!

Thanks for replying ellan. Did you request the test from your midwife or your doctor? Was it relatively straightforward to arrange?

Very straightforward. Ask midwife or perhaps practice nurse. They may say that it is unneccesary though and not want to do it. Finite resources and all that!
