I am due tomorrow with dc4 and it will be the first time I've reached my due date.

My mw said they will sweep at 41weeks he baby hasn't arrived.

So i'm curious to hear about them now.

Thanks

Well I daresay I'll be offered another sweep on Friday when I see consultant, but I'm seriously considering refusing to leave the hospital until I have baby.

DH says he will refuse to bring me home as he just doesn't know how to deal with me anymore. I'm moody, snappy, constantly in tears etc and he's finding it really hard tbh. I agree with everything he's saying and will totally allow him to leave without me!!

Happenstance how do you know the sweep worked? You may have had the baby at the same time without it?

entropygirl · 26/04/2012 10:51

babylon really hope you get going before then....I was climbing the walls by that point and had been having painful BH contractions for about 6 weeks before my waters burst in movie style.

I was the only one of my antenatal class to go over term (which must be pretty unlikely in a group of 7 women), and to be honest I have never really forgiven them all...

Anyway 'get it out get it out' vibes to all of you waiting!

Happenstance · 26/04/2012 12:33

Maybe, i will never know, but i'm glad i had the sweep in my mind it was preferable to induction

EdlessAllenPoe · 26/04/2012 12:42

interesting entropy i thought the Cochrane review was favourable to sweeps (though it said it would help 1 in 8 women avoid induction, not 75%)

do you have a link for that?

i have refused sweeps on the grounds i wasn't going to agree to induction anyway....(not just for being overdue) and because, like you say, if i was near labour anyway, why bother?

Babylon1 · 26/04/2012 20:48

Well just a small update, I've had a bit of blood loss and more mucussy stuff and quite a lot of strong painful BH today. Really hopin things get going soon!!!

Babylon1 · 27/04/2012 11:36

Yes!!!! I'm in labour!!! GrinGrin came back to labour ward earlier and saw same midwife who did sweep on Tuesday!! They plan to break my waters very soon! So exciting!!!! :-D

entropygirl · 27/04/2012 13:28

edless well it said they work above placebo (just) but that the pain involved meant that it wasn't worth it....

entropygirl · 27/04/2012 13:28

go babylon best of luck!!!

Babylon1 · 28/04/2012 06:49

Congratulations Babylon!! Smile

I found it uncomfortable and violating and the 3 sweeps I had have given me some issues as I feel I was forced into them. If (fingers crossed) I get that far this time I will be refusing, no question.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 28/04/2012 08:31

Ahhhh, congratulations babylon nice labour!

steben · 28/04/2012 08:35

I had three in my first pregnancy - the midwife who did the first two was quite young and they did nothing and did not hurt at all. My third was carried out by a senior midwife and was v uncomfortable three hours later my waters broke and I went into labour! I was glad because I was due to be induced the following day.

entropygirl · 28/04/2012 23:01

babylon congratulations!!

strawberry that is truly terrible! I hate beyond hate when midwives get into that whole first you do this, then this, mind set - like we are all on a conveyor belt....

It can be hard to get off.

I was absolutely determined not to have one but then got so very bored with being pregnant I thought I might have a go after all. Luckily I didnt go long enough over due to qualify. I know this was a lucky escape because even in full labour I found the vaginal exams extremely painful, to the point I almost refused them (then they brought in the woman known as 'small hands' which saved the day).

Good luck with your pregnancy!
