Baby Measuring Small at 29 weeks, any reassuring stories out there?

I went for a growth scan yesterday at 29+4, DD2 is only just scraping into the 10th centile for size. She has grown pretty well since last scan at 25 weeks, but still right at the bottom of the scale :(

They estimated her weight around 2lbs 12oz, which doesn't seem too bad.
My DD1 was 8lbs 3oz at 41 weeks, so I don't 'think' I grow small babies as a rule. I have another scan in about 3 weeks to make sure she is staying on track.

I am really really stressing that there is something wrong with her that is not being picked up, even though everything else looks good on the scan. Would love to hear some similar stories with positive outcomes to cheer me up.

They kept telling me I was having a monster truck baby and I would need a c section. Turned out to be 8lbs 7 and normal delivery. They also never got the weight of my twins right. They came out 6lbs 2 and 6lbs 5. Try not to worry to much.

I got told my dd would weigh 5lb max at term. I had growth scans every 2 weeks from 19 weeks pregnant. My dd arrived at 41+2 at a very healthy 8lb 12oz!!

Thanks for sharing you stories :)

MissPrickle - did your DD have a growth spurt in the last 10 weeks, or did they always measure her small? It is amazing to think they can get it so wrong!

Hi OP,

I have been told all through my pregnancy that my baby is on the small side. It was only when I had an enormous a minor breakdown at my GP did she reassure me as she felt the sonographers were being really OTT at scaring me. My GP was v happy with the LO's growth rate and I also found this chart which put my little one only just below average length and weight.

Had a scan yesterday where the sonographer said the predicted weight at 40 weeks will be 7.5lbs which she said was "very small" but I am pretty happy with that prediction, as is my GP.

Also, a friend of mine was told consistently that her little boy was too small and that she needed to stop work early to rest and eat lots of protein. She wasn't able to stop early and was really dreading a super tiny baby but he was over 9lbs!

I have been told to expect a small baby, having measured consistently on the smaller side throughout pregnancy. But then I've only gained around 6-7lbs in weight too.

I am currently 39+5, so shall be seeing, hopefully very soon, if the predictions are correct.

Scan 2 weeks ago suggested it would be about 6lb3oz at birth. Considering somebody on my antenatal thread just had a baby that surprisingly only weighed 5lb3oz, I don't think that's actually that small!!

Nice to hear about others going through the same thing. Will be interesting to see what our babies actually weigh at term, rather than these guessing games that are going on now!

Elsa - Surely 7.5lbs is perfectly big, even above average? How many weeks do you have to go?

Jambalaya - good luck with your birth, maybe you can come back and update this thread once you have LO (if you remember/and/or have a spare minute Wink

I am trying to let the worrying go, and just accept that she will be small, but hopefully perfectly fine and healthy or they have their numbers wrong.

Hi. I constantly measured 3 to 4 weeks behind since about 28 ish weeks. The 20 week scan measurements were just on the scale. Had a growth scan at 36 weeks as was measuring around 32 weeks. They estimateded full term weight to be small. Dd was born 2.5 weeks ago at 42 weeks weighing in at 8lbs 12 so a load of tosh in my case and alot of worry about nothing!

She was 6lb15oz, bang on her due date.

Not big, not small - just perfect. Grin

I had a a scan that suggested my DD was 6lb2oz at 35 weeks. 7 weeks later she arrived at 7lb10oz - the earlier scan estimated her weight way too high. Trying to assess weight via scan is far from an exact science.
