Lack of bump

Hi all! I know this gets discussed regularly, but thought i'd raise it again... Anyone else had the exoerience of just not looking as round as everyone else? It is my first, and i am peek 20, and there is a definite curve but nothing that visible.... Nobody at work can tell at all! Just look slightly podgy in my stomach, but nothing dramatic.

I am sort of tall.. Well, 5 7 - and have a very long tors - i have a ridiculously long back. So it is possible baby is just able to stretch out more inside me that someone more normally sized. I am also quite small boned and slender, and it is my first so apparently shows less dramatically than second or later pregnancies. Still, it is a bit unnerving ti feel so practically bump-less!

It is made weirder by the way it feels like it gets bigger and small during the day!

Anyone else have a diminished bump experience?

Yes, I know how you feel. I am the furtherst along in my NCT class. There is someone who is due 12th July and has a bigger bump than me. I am due 23rd May. How is that possible? Ahhhh.
It drives me nuts, but I am measuring correct at all my midwife appointments so she tells me to not be worried. Drives me nuts though as I am 35 weeks and don't look it at all.

MillyStar · 19/04/2012 18:37

I'm 41 weeks today with my 1st ;)

If you don't know me you honestly wouldn't have been able to tell I was pregnant till I was more than 30 weeks

Was a size 18 when I started tho so not sure if that's god anything to do with it for me! I've got a huge bump now

blondiep14 · 19/04/2012 18:43

I'm about the same height and when I concieved my first I was pretty slim. I think I had a small bump at 20 weeks but probably not obvious if you didn't know. By 24 weeks I had a definite bump clear to all!

AlpinePony · 19/04/2012 18:44

Twice I've returned from hospital with a baby to have the neighbours say "we didn't know".

turtles · 19/04/2012 18:54

With a bump you describe can I predict it's a girl? I had football bumps by the end and they were all boys but even with my 3rd (v.loose tummy muscles by then!) people didn't notice my bump, I'm also very tall.

susiegrapevine · 19/04/2012 19:57

My bump with my 1st was also very small! Was 34 weeks at my sisters wedding and one of her friends had to check that I was the pregnant one!! Went look at nurseries for ds yesterday and told the woman showing me round I was expecting another (I am 22 weeks) and she asked when. I said august so she squelled at me and said omg you are tiny I never would have guessed! I also have a long torso and short legs op so you may have something there if you are longer up top you have a smaller bump

WinterMymble · 19/04/2012 20:31

This is all so reassuring! Thanks everybody!

Weezie that is a good point... I am definitely going to chat to my midwife when i see her again early in May and hopefully she can tell me the same thing.

Blondie that sounds exactly like what is happening with me... So maybe in a month i will be less covert!! Alpine that made me grin. wow. twice! It IS reassuring to know that stealth bump isnt necessarily weird.

turties wow you are exactly right! Yes, she is a little girl apparently :) i disnt know that could sometimes shape the way they are carried. Was your third a girl?

Susie that is v interesting... It does seem to make sense, doesnt it.... If we have such long torsos maybe there is more room in there :).

Grin It's bit of a stereotype but all the football bumps I've seen have been boys and the less round/football shaped ones have been girls.
I have 3 boys but split tummy muscles between ds1 and ds2 so felt like I looked 5 months pregnant at 5 weeks with ds3!

Loislane78 · 19/04/2012 21:24

I'm tall with longer body, slightly shorter legs and I too have a small bump, although last few days getting a lil growth spirt so I no longer just look like a muffin top! (22 wks). I'm grateful, as proud to have the bump but happy if it's more compact when I see how big I could get!

WinterMymble · 20/04/2012 19:26

Good point lois- - if ittops me feeling quite so cumbersome later on that should be good!

Had twenty week scan today and apparently wombat is doing fine for size! Stealth wombat. So that is reassuring.

I have a long slender torso as well, and strong stomach muscles, and at 20 weeks I still just looked slightly podgy in the stomach. A very small bump eventually appeared at about 24 weeks (am 36 weeks now and it's still not a huge bump)! Baby is absolutely fine.

Susan1981 · 21/04/2012 01:28

I stumbled on this thread by accident but just thought Id give you some reassurance. I had ds twins 11 weeks ago and when I was pregnant I was teeny tiny. I too am 5"7 but constantly people would worry me I was always worrying that something was wrong. I had 11lb worth of baby (divided into 2 babies :) ) at 37 weeks and thanks to my teeny tiny bump all the baby weight was lost instantly I was in my pre twin jeans within a week no lie and this is exactly what will prob happen to you! As long as wombat is healthy and spot on with growth look on the lil bump as a good sign that you wont be needing to weight watchers

CommanderShepard · 21/04/2012 10:18

I'm 37+4 and my belly button hasn't popped out - for some reason this really gets to me! I must have a really deep one or something since I measure correctly on the growth charts. As long as you and your baby are ok, that's all you need to worry about.

WinterMymble · 21/04/2012 10:53

Ballroom and commander it helps so much to know i am not at all unique in any of this, i am going to remwmber your posts when i get further along too...

And Susan thanks so nuch - your post was especially reassuring. It would indeed be great to eventually get back into my pre-pregnancy clothes. I guess it is also easier to move around etc when one doesnt have a totally vast bump. Still, it will be reassuring when i can feel wombat kick ... Dont think i have felt yet, though they said it will be a while cos of anterior placenta

I'm nearly 38 weeks and people can't believe I've only 2 weeks to go! The comments about my small bump do annoy me though, it feels huge, I can't get comfy and can't see anything south of it!

This is dc 2 & I wasn't huge with ds1, but he still came out 8.2 lb (so not tiny!).
I think for me it's because I'm wide hipped, so baby sits back more iyswim. I'd love to say it's because I have strong abs, but I think I would be
Lying!

cherrypieplum · 21/04/2012 14:56

Mine has just appeared over the last few weeks. I am expecting some strange looks when I return to work after two weeks off!

Painting my toe nails last night was a challenge to say the least!

Fraktal · 21/04/2012 15:07

I had nothing til about 7mo and my belly button never popped. I was at the gym on my EDD and one of the receptionists, who I saw practically every weekend, congratulated me on my pregnancy, having 'had suspicions' for a few weeks. She practically fainted when I said her suspicions probably kicked in around 36 weeks and my EDD was that day.
