Hi,

I am 6 weeks tomorrow and have just had an early scan as was experiencing bad cramping. The scan showed a sac but no fetal pole or heart beat.... Is that normal around this time? I know i am very early into pregnancy but can't help but worry. I've started to loose the small amount of symptoms i had - sore boobs have gone and no longer feeling sick.

I got my BFP on Thursday 12th april which showed i conceived 2-3 weeks ago and i've done another clearblue test this morning and the conceived age hasn't moved. My last period was 9th March and me and my partner had sex on 24th March so i thought it should have gone up to 3-4 weeks this week?

I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks 3 days last February and really don't want this to happen again :(

Can anyone offer any advice?

Brooke x

what did the sonographer say at the scan, i know it's less likely to see a heartbeat under 7 weeks though.

SOrry about your mc, i have had 2 early mcs over the last year and now and 5 weeks 1 day and hoping this tadpole stays put, i don't know about the clearblue test i'm afraid!

Fingers crossed for you that everything is ok!

She didn't say too much really, she booked me in for a scan on 30th so I should be 7 weeks then and said hopefully we will see more then. I'm just going to have to stay positive and wait till then and pray that he stays put and grows! Can't believe how stressful these early stages are!!
Sorry about your mcs hoping your tadpole stays put too! X

Just keep positive, it's probably just too early to see a heartbeat

if you feel up to it come over and join us on our Dec due date ante-natal thread here

Hi Brooke, sorry to hear about your miscarriage.

I had an early scan last week at 5 weeks 5 days and like you I had a sac but no heartbeat. (I didn't ask about fetal pole). The sonographer said this was totally normal and it was often too early to see a heartbeat at this stage.

What size was your sac?

Try not to worry about the clearblue tests, they work on HCG levels which can move around all over the place eg at different times of day.

Perhaps ask for another scan in a couple of weeks, for reassurance (esp since you have had a previous early m/c)? I am going back for another scan when I will be 7+5 to see if there is a heartbeart.

Hope this helps.

minipie · 19/04/2012 12:06

ah cross posted, I see you are having another scan Smile hopefully you will see a good heartbeat then

Aworryingtrend · 19/04/2012 12:07

I was told it was unlikely to see a heartbeat before 7 weeks, before that just a sac. The CB conception predicotrs are not reliable past a certain point so I wouldn't use that as a guide. Fingers crossed you can see a HB at your next scan.

brooke89 · 19/04/2012 12:13

Thanks guys that's reassuring! She didn't tell me the size of the sac just said to come back in a couple of weeks. I'll be 7 weeks 3 days then so fingers crossed! Fingers crossed for you too mini!
I haven't had any levels taken yet, do you think I should ask for some? X

thanks!

I asked about hcg levels but got the impression they only test those if they see something on a scan that worries them. So it's a good sign if you haven't had any... Smile

I might ask at the next scan anyway...

It's so hard having so little information to go on isn't it!

brooke89 · 19/04/2012 12:35

It is SO hard especially when there's all these horror stories on the Internet! X

See my thread "Worried Husband Posting..."

minipie...I think we're on a similar timescale to you. We have a scan tomorrow because of a suspected polyp at the last scan (post hysterescopy where a polyp was removed). In the meantime we had the BFP - so not expecting to see anything tomorrow. We had an early mc almost exactly a year ago.

But, hey, someone else going through the same thing - sending positive thoughts your way - best of luck with everything.

Aaargh...last post @brooke89, not minipie. Soz.

brooke89 · 19/04/2012 13:45

You too! Fingers crossed for your scan tomorrow!! Post how it goes! X

I had 2 early scans:

5 weeks- only found an empty sac
7 weeks- found sac, yolk, and heartbeat.

I am now 16+2 weeks :)

confuzed90 · 19/04/2012 16:22

Yes its a good sign you haven't had bloods took, I had an early scan too, around same time as you. No heartbeat. Had bleeding and everything. Was horrible. I'm now 39+1 waiting for baby to make his appearance! So please stay positive for now. Good luck and I hope everything goes well.

brooke89 · 19/04/2012 16:27

Thank you Smile feel so much better after hearing all your positive stories! Let's hope it doesn't drag until my next scan! X
