Im freaking out a bit - few weeks ago did test and it was negative. As period can sometimes be a bit late and I had what I thought was PMS ( sore boobs, cramps) I went out for a leaving do and drunk a lot. I also went to a wedding and out for dinner a couple of times...

I did another test this week and got a BFP.

I know it was really irresponsible of me to be drinking so much but it's literally the first month we stopped using contraception and assumed that was causing mu delayed period.

While I didn't get falling over/ being sick drunk, I did drink a lot in total and I'm freaking out a bit... Ok a lot.

I wondered if anyone had any words of wisdom please?

I did similar with both my DS's.
I felt wretched when I found out I was pregnant but you can't undo it.
They are 4 and 2 and both in rude health!

You didn't know so please don't beat yourself up.

Nothing transfers to the baby for the first couple of weeks anyway so don't worry about it. I put off testing after a dissapointing negative early test and then found out I was pregnant after a weeks holiday drinking a few glasses of wine each night. I don't feel guilty about this as very unlikely to have to got to the baby. Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and try not best your self up about everything you cannot be perfect all the time.

I found out I was pg the day after me hen weekend in magaluf, I was distraught at the doctors and she said the same that nothing transfers to the baby for a while, and she said most babies are conceived with the help of booze so not to worry !!

You weren't being irresponsible, as far as you knew you were not pregnant! Like everyone else has said the baby doesn't get anything from you in the first couple of weeks, as the placenta is still forming and the yolk sac contains what they need. Now that you have a positive result you can make sure you follow the guidelines, are you taking folic acid? Congratulations on your BFP!

If drinking in the early days was that damaging, no-one under the age of 25 would ever get pregnant.

I took 2 paracetamol on the morning of my bfp, for my hangover (although the sight of the bfp would have shifted it nicely, had I known)

Stop panicking!

Similar situation for me too. I did a test on a Fri which was negative, went out and drank loads of wine on the Sat and did another test on the Tues which was positive, had also drank wine in the 3 weeks befoe not knowing I was pregnant. Wondered at the time why I wasn't enjoying it as much!

Have tried not to worry too much about it as most, if not all my friends have similar experiences and have perfectly healthy babies/children. Plus worrying about it now is probably worse than the drinking I did back then.

Thank you all so much for your congrats and reassurance - yes I am taking Pregnacare now and was having folic acid sporadically before that so hopefully that's all ok... I am getting a bit excited now!

With this pregnancy I didn't find out until I was over 20 weeks, and that spanned over Xmas and new year so a lot of wine and Brie and other things were consumed that are not recommended.

My midwife assured me that it is a copious amount of ongoing alcohol that will affect the baby, and not to worry.

You're doing the right thing now so don't beat yourself up about it x
