A thread about contractions

Whenever people talk about labour (and when I say talk, I mean MN obviously!) they always seem to be able to say "my contractions were x minutes apart and lasted for x seconds"

When I was in labour with DS, my contractions were really irregular and several ran into each other. It made it difficult to time them and I felt like a right idiot when the labour ward mw asked me how long/how many etc etc. It was until I was examined and was already 8cm that the mw "got" how far along I was due to me and my stupid contractions! At the time I get really silly at not being able to count but then I realised is never read or been told that this could happen! Now I'm pregnant again, I still haven't seen anything other than normal, regular contractions!!

So, inspired by the other thread (about contractions and going into hospital) I thought I'd put it out there in case it happens/has happened to anybody else!

(sorry to anybody the thought this would be a birth thread...Grin )

With my DD 11 years ago, I experienced something similar. As soon as my waters broke my contractions were coming in threes every three minutes, but it was several more hours before she was born. The mw expressed no concern. With my DS 4 years later, the contractions were textbook!
