Private Scans in the South

Hello ladies...

I apologise if there are any other threads similar to this but was wondering if anyone could offer any experiences/advice with me..

Me and the Mr have been discussing an NT scan and an early gender scan and have some a bit of hunting around online.

Has anyone had any experience of the Babybond place in Southampton (Bedford Place) ... Or any other clinics in the south region?! Also could you advise on prices you would expect to pay (I know it's not essential, so really don't want to be ripped off - I know MIL will already have something to say about the fact we want to do this and we can't afford it etc!)

Would appreciate anyone's experiences and if they visited any clinics they would/wouldn't recommend.

Thanks xx :-)

I don't know how near you are to Bath, but I know that the RUH charges £45 for private scans.

I went to the Spire Clinic in Bristol for a private 12 weeks scan and with DD2 had a scan at Clarion Health in Bath. Spire was great as the scan was done by a consultant and ran through everything with us.

hi cookies how about this: www.firstviewimaging.co.uk/

i am not wanting one and haven't used them but maybe do a search and read some reviews.

I've been to first view imaging a few times. They are wonderful. I had early scans there with both previous pregnancies at 9 weeks due to me being anxious from several miscarriages before, they are kind and very attentive. I think it was £50 for a scan, but that was 2 years ago. We then went back at 28 weeks with both pregnancies for 3D scans, and again, brilliant. X

If you are near Oxfordshire, beard mill clinic is excellent

I went to the Babybond clinic near me in London and they were great. I had a growth scan and it cost £90. I think they have a website where they outline all their prices.

HTH xx

Hi,

I have been to Babybond Southampton (in Bedford place) twice this pregnancy and they are great- mid priced in terms of scans and worth the money. Also LV healthcare in Whitely do private scans and are a bit bargain basement but still nicer than NHS.

In first pregnancy went to Fetal Medicine Centre in London which is fantastic, and recommend highly.

Private scans are lovely, unrushed and comfy!

Thank you very much for all your responses ladies.. think I am going to have to book one soon as it seems the appointments are running out and it does look good. DP is very sure he wants a NT scan and as you know it has to be done within the time constraints. Just wanted to check out Babybond and if anyone had any bad stories, before I part with a chunk of money.

Last time round with DD I didn't have any private scans and I do regret it, I felt pressured by relatives, and I definitely want to take the opportunity this time round. I'm glad I'm not just being bratty :)

I went to Babybond in Southampton and it was a really lovely experience. The sonographer was friendly and warm which makes such a difference if you are a bit anxious like me. She took her time with the scan and we were given LOADS of photos. Excellent value for money in our case.

Just out of curiosity ( don't mean to be ignorant!) but aren't NT scans offered free on the nhs? I know a gender scan won't cost too much but an NT scan (plus blood test) will be quite pricey privately.

mythical · 18/04/2012 13:42

P.s - I've had an NT scan + blood tests at the hospital ( I was asked if I want one at the booking and said yes) and I had a private scan (gender) at 21 weeks ( they do them from 16 weeks though)

PointyDogs · 18/04/2012 14:45

Second vote for Beard Mill Clinic if you are within reach of Oxfordshire. We had the NT scan done there at 12 weeks (after a traumatic prior experience on NHS culminating in losing the baby at 14 weeks (no fault of the hospital), we just wanted a totally different experience this time, and were luckily able to pay for it). Lovely setting, friendly doctor, and a thoroughly detailed scan - they look at far more parameters than the NHS scans, in a totally unhurried, relaxed scan. Plus she correctly told us the sex of the baby :) - she did say at that stage she couldn't always tell, but ours was very clear.

mythical · 18/04/2012 14:50

The reason I'm asking is that (as far as I'm aware) the nt scan can only be done up to 13(ish) weeks and the gender scans start 16 weeks (for accurate results)

Cookiesandcream06 · 18/04/2012 15:00

Yeh as NT one as far as I know can be done between 11 and 13+6, and the gender one starts at 16 weeks. I don't remember being offered an NT scan on the NHS before? Unless it was later on during the pregnancy maybe? And yeh I have said to DP that they are a bit too expensive in my opinion as they are £190ish including bloods, and I said we can't really afford to have two private scans x

there is a little box on my notes that was ticked at the booking appt that says "for NT scan please" i said i want one and they said "if that's what you want, sure"
I am 22 and had no obvious reasons/risks, just wanted the NT scan.
It would be worth enquiring and having it done on the NHS if you can then get a lovely relaxing gender scan done privately!
Our 20 week scan was pretty awful - we were very excited at the possibility of finding out if it's a little girl or boy but the sonographer was quite rude - my DH just said something along the lines of "soo! any ideas of what it might be??" and sonographer said "i'm here to check for abnormalities with the baby not to see the gender if you want to find that out then you can go and pay for a private scan" which is true, of course but not the nicest way to put it..

Cookiesandcream06 · 18/04/2012 15:37

Oh no that sounds horrible. Such a special
moment for you-they may well do loads every single day but it means the world to the couple. i felt so rushed during mine that I would love a private gender one for sure, i want to have a good stare at the screen not just flashed it! It is DP that wants an NT one done as soon as possible -I'm 24 and low risk as well so there's no real need, I'd be happy with an NHS one TBH
