12 week scans - not provided in certain areas?

I thought the 12 week scan was automatically provided everywhere by the NHS and was suprised to read that it's apparently not the case.

As well as this blog post, this blogger has also tweeted that free 12 week scans are being scrapped by private health companies taking over maternity services in the SW, because they're deemed as not essential. Shock

If this is true, I wouldn't be surprised. The government's changes to NHS healthcare looked bad enough on paper, I dread to think what we will all find in practice now the changes have gone through...

It's true. Several PCTs around here - including Bath iirc - don't offer 12 week scans.

Doesn't surprise me. When i was pg wiht my DS - the first scan I had was at 20 weeks. (this was in 1997 though).

I wasn't bothered about not havinga 12 week scan though.

Very bad idea I recently had blighted ovum which was only detected due to 12 week scan. To make people wait longer can cause serious problems and infection. Surly they cant do this th
