Can you ever tell the sex at 12 week scan?

I had an email this morning from some pregnancy site or other saying that as I was 12 weeks today, I might be able to find out the sex at my upcoming scan. I've gotten scan on Friday when I'll be 12 + 3, I would have thought this was much to early?

Anyone got any ideas?

Here is a link to a trial from the aforementioned Fetal Medicine Centre which found that using the "angle of the dangle" technique they were 98% accurate at predicting gender at 12 weeks and 100% at 13 weeks.

So you can reliably find the gender at the 12 week scan but not usually on the NHS.

Winkywinkola saying that at my 20week scan they said my placenta is right lateral whatever that means I had to double check it was a boy as I honestly thought I was having another dd had 2 convince myself :)

I asked at 12 weeks, got told she thought it was a boy. So got really attached to that idea and then got told it was a girl at my 20 week so my advice would be to wait!

Ok, I definitely see on yours. I think No, I definitely do. I just can't see on mine...if it's the bit I think you mean, it looks massive - or is it the white bit within the belly?

Betty, at the end of the belly on your pic there are 3 white blobs (I'm sure they're very important but have no idea what they are )

One at the top, one at the bottom and one to the left. In the centre of the 3 blobs there is an angle pointing up. I think that's the nub, indicating a boy.

Can anyone guess using the nub theory with my 12 week scan? Not sure I can tell of its the nub or a what?

I don't think there are properly formed genitals by 12 weeks but a lot of people believe in the nub theory.
Even with nub theory though, it's not particularly accurate before 12+5 as the nub could still be rising before then apparently.
