Got my BFP this morning (honestly I've been announcing it all over MN, every single MNer probably knows by now Smile ).

I've never even poas before, ever. So my first reaction was just pure shock, I got the shakes really badly. Called DP in and could barely tell him! We just stood there and hugged and said "shit!" a lot.

My first thoughts were, oh my God 9 months without alcohol!! - including my hen do and our wedding...
Second thought was am I going to fit into my wedding dress?
Third thought - I bought 2 pairs of new trousers last week!!

So, what were the first thoughts to hit after you found out you were pg, and what were yours and DP's reactions?

My first thoughts were "oh shit, guess I'd better move in then!"

Unfortunately, our dear friends' baby was stillborn a week later which left me in a turmoil of guilt, shock at pg, new living together stresses etc etc.

Things were pretty bad for quite a while but friends then announced they're expecting again (due in 5 weeks) and all was then well with the world again.

Congratulations!!!

My first + was an 'oh shit, that can't be right. No no no no no. Bugger.'

But with DD, we'd just got back from honeymoon, felt fairly sure that I was pg but couldn't test until we could purchase a test in English, stood in a public loo together & I POAS! DH knew before I did & we just laughed, said OMG & so on LOTS. It was so hard keeping it quiet as we were going to a friend's wedding the next day & we were so excited.

The next was 'OMG, can't believe it, finally!!' after only 2mths TTC Blush but that was a short lived thrill.

This one was 'that explains why I've felt so s**t then!!' before the 'hope it lasts' started. 6 tests some 7+ wks on, I think I'm starting to be happy & excited (when the nausea allows of course).

"You have got to be kidding me"

It wasn't the best month to start TTC- DH had flu, I had flu, DS had an awful cough and was on a nebuliser and was teething. We managed to half- heartedly DTD once. 10 days later I felt really crappy and POAS just to rule it out before I went to the doctor. Very clear line.

Second thought was "Bugger- I've got to get through hosting Christmas for 12 for a week with no booze"

We'd only been trying about 3-4 months but even so had been really disappointed when got period previously. The difference between this and previous months, was that I felt totally normal - none of the bloating, weepiness, tiredness that previously I had mistaken for early pregnancy - when of course I'd just been pre-menstrual.

Period was about 2 days late but nothing unusual so hadn't wanted to get my hopes up too much. Was going out for a meal and wanted to know if I'd be able to drink. The line was v faint but definitely there. There was no tears or anything. I was much less emotional than I had thought I would be. I thought "Well there you go. We've actually done it." I sent a photo on my phone to DH at work saying "are there two lines?" or something.

We talked about it a lot very calmly that weekend. It still didn't seem real and I think we were both very guarded about getting emotional and excited so early as we know so many people who have miscarried. It only really seemed real when we saw the first scan.

Congratulations!

Mine were:

  1. Yaaaaaaaaay! 13 months of trying and finally!

  2. Oh dear, now do I tell DH as a birthday surprise for him, or leave it until after his night out? Hmm, I can't exactly drink, better tell him.

  3. Oh shit... I'm going to have a baby!
