Over a week late but getting negative preg tests - any thoughts??

Hi I am new to this, just hoping for some supportive advice.

I am just over a week late for my period, my husband and I have been trying for a baby since Christmas, so am obviously keeping everything crossed.

I have taken two tests but both have come back negative.

I have had symptons (I dont think they are in my head), I've had: -
-Lower back pain
-Cramping pains in tummy (like period pains, but no sign)
-My breasts feel tender (almost pains like they are growing!!)
-hot flushes and my cheeks are burning up randomly through the day.

Even though I am getting negative tests is it possible that I am still pregnant, I am planning to wait another week to test and then if still negative and no sign of period a trip to the docs? any advice or thoughts?

Hi

are your periods usually regular? If so then thats a good sign! All you can do is wait and see though

I tried for 7 months for dd1 and 12 months for dd2 so understand the anxiety waiting- its a nightmare each month! I would try not to get your hopes up though when late. During ttc i was very regular - 28 days but i did have months were i was late and not pregnant - i often thought maybe something did happen during those months but the pregnancy "didn't take". 50% pregnancies don't implant so you would be late but never get positive iyswim?

I think it all depends how regular you are - both my positive tests showed up by day 26 (so about 12 days after ovulation) - but i could predict that from my cycle. I also never got symptoms til 8 weeks pregnant - any before that were period months.

I don't mean to sound negative - just don't want to give false hope based on experience. I think if you are regular, a week late and take an early pregnancy test which shows negative - its more likely you are not pregnant this month but i do hope i'm wrong! :)

Could go wither way really. I had a cycle where was a week late then just had period as normal. I also had a cycle where i was 8 days late, negative test every morning of those 8 days, with a positive test on the evening of the 8th day! Due in two weeks with mr late positive. :)
Good luck.

It always took me a long time for a test to show up positive so if I were you I would wait another week then test again.

Could be..... my DD started as a negative test followed by a positive a week later. Hope it is but either way, take it easy and relax, stress is your biggest enemy just now.

Keep us updated and put your feet up x

Thanks for all the thoughts and advice, its nice to have some supportive comments.

I am normally pretty regular never more than a two days late, this is the longest.

I will wait another week and see and try not to stress, as I know this could be a problem.

I'll let you know

and thanks again for the responses.

Still no sign of my period.

Although we have been trying, we have been trying to be relaxed about it and haven't been keeping track of dates etc. I have just worked it back and it seems that I usually have a 32 day cycle and that its now been 43 days since the first day of my last period.

If there is still no sign by Thursday, I will take another hpt and then if not will see if the doctor will test me.

Do they normally do a urine or blood test?

Hi,

I experienced something very similar and I wasn't pregnant. It's possible, but very unusual for the tests to lie (sorry). I had the same symptoms as you and a visit to the doctor sorted me out. He listened to me rabbiting on about stressing about getting pregnant, very late period (how do I know I'm fertile when my periods are irregular etc), confused about negative tests...and basically gave me loads of reassurance and sent me on my way, quite sure by then that I wasn't pregnant, but much more relaxed about the whole process. Period duly arrived....

Then BANG - a few weeks later - I fell pregnant!! I honestly think all I needed was that short chat with the Doc to put my mind at rest. Oh and the docs parting words were...sex, sex and more sex....Obvious I know...but I really did need to be told!

GOOD LUCK!

Agree with other posters who say it really could go either way. I don't have a good anecdote for you though! The month before I conceived this pg I was 2 weeks late Angry and had every symptom you could think of and not a single positive test. Did one every couple of days. Turned out my period was just late!

TBH I don't know what your doctor will do (probably just a urine test, which is the same as your HPT) if you're still negative on Thursday. My plan was to wait until I had missed a second period before going to the doctor. I'd say if you have no luck on Thurs, wait another week then test.

Don't want to be a wet blanket as anecdotal evidence suggests that it's 50/50 until you get your period - but what my doc said at my pre-conception checkup (and what you'll read anywhere) is that if you keep having negative tests it's probably not your month. Your HCG increases exponentially if you are pregnant - which I discovered myself! My BFP at home was a very faint line (day after period due), and 5 days later in the doctor's office urine test it was a line so bloody bright and strong you could guide a jumbo jet to land with it!! Wasn't expecting that.

Good luck!!!!! :)
